To me it is being 'close'. A hug, a kiss, or just sharing a special moment together. May or may not include sex in my opinion.

To me intimacy is trust. Trusting the other one so much you let them hold your heart in their hands. Trusting and being open.

Have you ever been kissing someone you love, and they love you, and somehow their breath goes into your lungs? That's a symbol of intimacy to me. At moments when I am feeling alone and awful, I remember the times I have had that feeling, and it helps.
