What is the strangest thing you have brought to your therapy session?

I need something lighthearted to distract me. So, if you’re willing tell us what the oddest object (or whatever) you have brought to therapy to help start a discussion.

I’ll start- I’ve sent some of my photography, no particular reason why just felt the drive to. And tomorrow will be bringing some childhood photos to help facilitate some connection and conversation that we are struggling with.

Chain saw. I kid you not. Although I didn’t bring it in order to start a discussion, I was on my way back from a lumberjack gig. It was a bit weird, as was walking with the thing in the centre of our capital... ?

Let’s see, I’ve also brought a small axe (had purchased it on my way to t, handed it to her at the beginning of the session just to make the setting less awkward :cautious: ), a golden retriever, a viola da gamba (a renaissance string instrument ), skis (on my way from a small winter hiking trip) and a pink bridesmaid’s dress (don’t ask :D ).

??? omg thank you!! I needed that. My T did say I could bring my dogs or a board game or something but haven’t gotten brave enough yet.

The strangest thing would have to be my senior memory book from high school I was trying to help explain the person I was and the person I became after multiple traumas in high school

@Kubash16 not really we only spent one session on it and since the book actually covered middle school and high school I wasn’t able to demonstrate what I had wanted. It was also cery hard on me to look back at that time and the hopes and dreams I had for who I would become

I used to bring shells, and early on I forgot it. So she left it at the front for me. It sat there all week. Then, at my next appointment I went to pick it up and they couldn’t find it and they all knew about it. They had all seen it, so they were looking everywhere. Even my T went back there to look. Finally, a lady figured out that she heard something drop into the trash can and looked and didn’t see anything, so she guessed that was it. She felt so bad. I wasn’t even really that attached to it. I just like to clench into them to help me ground and they remind me of a good memory. Any shell will do. I was able to stop bringing out the shells in time, it’s random if I bring them out, and if I do, my T asks me my level of disturbance. Shells seem to be an 8+ object now. I also bring instruments to therapy if I have a gig, because I won’t leave them in the car. Luckily, I haven’t gone straight to a six instrument show from therapy. That would definitely fill her entire office!
