What Self Care Do You Do To Combat Stress Ageing?

Stress is well known as a way to leave you a prematurely wrinkly pile of dead....provided it hasn't made a suicide statistic of us before then, like it nearly has done with me......

What I'd like to do is share ways of caring for yourself that makes you feel good, and helps combat the physical signs of stress....

I personally started out from 100m walks, to walking 8km to interval jogging....

I eat as much veg, fruit, protein, whole grains, organic produce and supplements as I can whilst keeping calories low for weight loss.

I also use skin and hair products packed with natural sourced vitamin E and A....

I've noticed a massive positive change in my skin, hair, energy and mind set.

What do you do to care for yourself?

I don't :( With the complete lack of self-respect, self-value and so on, I don't do anything... I just lose energy for anything. I don't have time.

I feel that eventually I will look back at my life and think:

"Oh, old man, what was your life worth, you have, oh, you have done nothing but work."

Eh, I don't know what to do on that. I just slowly die in stress and pain...

Oh I'm so glad you posted this - I've been looking in the mirror this year and thinking God you look old! I had a bad year last year, loosing my Dad, caring for my mum as a result plus loosing other friends and family members before their time. I figure it has to have taken a toll.

I've started to cut processed food out of our diet and I was hoping to start running - but that's still a hope!

Sadly as I near 55... there is only so much I can do. But basic things are eating whole foods, probiotics to improve absorption (both gastro and intestinal), proper hydration of water, avoiding concentrated sweets (to juices, and caffeinated drinks), weight management, using stress/relaxation techniques and having a plan/strategy for stressors.

Stress and I grow grey hair. I see the stress of my life when I look in the mirror. It isn't as awful as it sounds anymore... it is a testimony for my ability to persevere. But if there is a curative for reduced skin turgor... I'd like to hear it.

Save for surgery. No lie.

I have a few friends in the film industry. So I know first hand there are products out there that will make my skin look like I'm 12. I've used them, and they're magic. But at $700 a week if I wanted to buy them to use full time? Pfft. Rather save for surgery, thanks! <grin> But I'll take any swag bag going begging!

Aside from that...the standard: good food, good exercise, hair dye, and a twinkle in my eye.

Trying to eat well again, but that is a struggle. Trying to exercise again, but I overdid it somehow and now need to rest. I'm still convinced that medications had a negative effect on my muscles, grrr. I try to take care of my skin as well. However, I AM planning on getting plastic surgery in the future, just on my neck, as I come from a long line of turkey necked women! I likely won't do anything to my face though. Drinking lots of water. Getting good sleep, but this is a struggle right now as I have a stressor in my life....hopefully I'll be ok after tomorrow though!

I use organic coconut oil (cold pressed) on my hair from time to time before washing it (with organic shampoo). Works like a charm, my hair had started to reflect the stress I was dealing with, but it's looking better now. I

Also try to eat as little toxic crap from the supermarket as possible. Yesterday a freaking bag of chips with additives of all sorts really messed me up and I don't believe it's good for your body in general.

I use some supplements like fish oil and natural stuff to help like ginger and herbs.

On a side note: I quit smoking and coffee altogether. That helps as well.

I'm only 25 but supposedly look at least 5 years younger by everyone I meet. The only thing I can think that I do is drink a lot of water. I'd say make sure you're drinking 2-3 litres of water a day (more if you're exercising regularly or living in a hot climate). Add a slice of lemon, lime or orange to hot or cold water for a bit of a change. It does wonders for your skin and body.

The first day or so you may feel a bit sick from it, then you're likely to be suddenly really unexplainably thirsty for a day or so (your body may shed some stored water weight here as it finds out you're able to keep drinking so won't be at risk of dehydration) and then everything will normalise out. You should finally be able to tell when you're thirsty much easier - this is something that doesn't really make sense to most people as they're almost permanently semi-dehydrated. Lastly by that stage, you should stop peeing quite so much.

I'm trying to go to the gym more. I've been semi successful drinking more water. To try and stop getting so much take out I keep track on a calendar when I get it. I've only gotten really crappy food 6x this month, which is pretty good for me from going about 2-3x a week. The calendar really helps keep track of when I go to the gym, when I get take out, and I keep track of how many glasses of water I drink.

Oooh. Do tell! As a Serb/German Aussie, I think I'm pretty blessed with a very tough body and self rejuvenating skin, provided I feed it right, but those skin products sound awesome......especially for my wedding one day!

However, I AM planning on getting plastic surgery in the future, just on my neck, as I come from a long line of turkey necked women!
Yes, I'd like to do that too. I'd also love to get my nose straightened out after it got busted, and fix a small cartilage issue.

I went off most dairy about 3 months ago, and I'm feeling much better, don't feel bloated, gluggy and skin has improved.....had a milkshake and a custard slice the other day and felt like ABSOLUTE CRAP afterwards.

I also started on soy products a lot more, as well as Chia, and definitely feel better.

I've started using this FABULOUS Australian product called MooGoo.....o.m.g I love it! No nasties, ALL ingredients listed, and doesn't set off my OHs skin after shaving......

I've noticed that he's ageing terribly because he's not caring for himself with nutrition, skin care of exercise, so I think I need to enable him a bit more.

Ooh, yes, thank you for posting this. This is something I've been working on a lot, recently.

I've started cutting out meats, too. Have been doing it slowly. Starting with "weekday vegetarianism." Pretty self explainitory. I just had a chicken quesadilla today. It was delicious... And hush. I know it's Friday, but I swear I didn't think it had chicken in it. I thought it was just cheese. I'm weak, I know. :p

I've, also, started meditating. Got a cheap used copy of The Roots of Qigong from Amazon. Fascinating stuff. It doesn't stop at meditation, but includes physical exercise like tai Chi, and even suggests cutting out meat, too. That's not the reason I started. It was awesome to see a second source conclude that meat consumption has negative impacts on our physical, mental, and spiritual health. And recently I watched a TedTalk on brain health that also said meat intake was bad for your brain in some way.

I've also been trying to cut out caffeine. I have stopped coffee pretty much dead. Good quality teas have been a fantastic replacement for me. And there are plenty of naturally decaf options. I highly suggest a cheap diffuser and some decent loose tea. It will open up a new world of beverages to you.

I've started most of this about three months ago. It has seemed to have made a difference in my overall health. I feel sick less often, not quite as bummy for as long after some shit goes down with my sufferer, more focused, more energetic.

I currently need some good ideas or coping skills for during and immediately after those critical moments.
