Dom Violence What Do You Do For Self Care?

Not so little but I got a job cleaning. It's super part time but very physically demanding. Last week I cleaned a 2,000 square foot house in 4 hours. That really got the endorphins going and the place looked so pretty and shiny when I was done. To top it off my paychecks are for my savings which makes me feel much more secure.

I'm working on giving myself downtime. I hide out in my work and being at liberty with my own thoughts can be a little dangerous. I've started reminding myself to do nice little things when I can.

Instead of washing the dishes in a completely silent house, I make an effort to put on some good music. I try to remind myself to take the occasional long bath. I take my dog for walks in the sunshine or evening in places I feel safer, which is good for both of us. I've even put a little money aside for a chair massage this week. It's hard work to do kind things myself and I beat myself up way too often, but I feel like if I keep doing nice things it might eventually feel natural.[DOUBLEPOST=1400363186,1400363094][/DOUBLEPOST]And I work in the garden. Gardening is huge for me because it has trajectory and requires long term goals and foresight; all things that are really good when I'm in a dark spot.

Great Topic!

One of the biggest self care things I do is spending time here on myPTSD!

Second, I am realizing that at times self care is a major struggle for me especially under stressful and times and when the anxiety is at major high point.

I also I do find that having Ms Winnie around does help me to realize that I not only share the care of myself, I have to think about her needs which reminds me often that I must care for myself so that I can in turn provide for her care! It's a two way street as I see it.

I'm trying to be better about my self-care. I like to read a lot so I try to find time everytime to curl up with a book, even if it's only for 20 minutes. And every few weeks I make time to go to the hair salon, because it calms me down and gives me a chance to get out of the house and be social for a little while. But I need to find more ways to practice self-care, especially when I'm feeling so tired and run down and just want to crawl into bed.
