Relationship Wife Of A Verbally Abusive Combat Vet

What if they refuse to get any kind of counseling or help? My marine corps combat vet is very emotionally abusive but refuses to get any sort of psychological help or therapy.... not sure how long I can be in such a scary and demeaning relationship

I'm so sorry that got are going through something so hard. It sounds like your husband is really struggling and here we all know how hard that is to watch.

That being said, you do not deserve to be abused. Sometimes people need help and getting help for their own good isn't enough of a reason to take action. It might be that the best thing you can do to help him, you, and your relationship is to tell him that he needs to get therapy or you will not stay in the relationship. It might the hardest thing to do, but also the only thing with any hope of saving your relationship.

Sending hugs your way. ❤

@Everleigh - :hug: if you accept them.

@Fadeaway - I'm going to res...

I LOVE your response to Everleigh and totally agree. I married a combat Vet three months ago, and have done a ton of research on the subject. In doing that, PTSD certainly does affect their brain and therefore the way they see/hear things (very differently) and react to them. Very different then I am use to! I'm still in the "can I do this" mode, and am constantly trying to understand. Hence the research and being here. I'm so happy to have found this website...the people here are awesome!

@Everleigh It doesn't sound to me like you are "doing anything wrong". Quite the opposite and he is lucky to have you in his life. Kudos to you for your attitude and obvious love and caring in dealing with this. The guys/gals with combat (or any other) PTSD need a person like you in their life! I am mostly dealing with the verbal abuse, and yes you are right...it is soooo debilitating. I have never endured the name calling that I now live. I hope he and i can get through this. I hope to get to where you are and the sooner the better. My prayers are with all of you dealing with this...and everybody involved...and I know your prayers are with me and mine as well. Thank you all!
