Oh dear, Abstract, I'm just about to talk about the r word. Maybe don't read.
I don't like phrases which divide rape into types. "Gang rape", "date rape", "stranger rape" etc. Rape is such a powerful word - and I understand why it can feel too powerful to use. I feel that qualifying it with an adjective instantly reduces the impact of the word. The phrases are too neat and handy - you can't categorise such an experience in that way, It's always rape, and the context can be described separately from that.
I really, really hate people using the words rape and torture to describe experiences that weren't those things.
I sometimes cringe at words or phrases that people pick for their usernames here. This is especially if it includes a derogatory word for someone with a mental health issue/disability.
I always flinch at swear words and have to mentally rebalance after hearing or reading one (even with the asterisks).
The worst word for me, by far, is "family". To me, that word is a synonym for all things bad.
