News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

I finally got an appt with my T due this week. But am worried if I should go with more cases stacking up around me/them. (Of course this is potentially me trying to find excuses not to go as I’m panicking about sharing stuff.)
My therapist is offering video-conference. I declined it. I know she works out and is very healthy. You'll be fine. Just be yourself. She/He has already heard it all. There's nothing you can say that won't surprise your therapist :).

I'm really concerned there is this hyper-focus on first responders. I think the media and public need to understand that the only way to combat this virus is by the community as a whole and every individual within, taking specific measures themselves. No first responder of any nature can stop this virus. If the community and individuals don't do their thing and obey the best advice given by scientists and health authorities the community and those very same individuals will all suffer. The virus doesn't care & has no conscience.
^Well said.

I'm now in a state, county, and city disaster zone and they are starting to order legally enforceable closures. (Most everything was shutting down already anyhow, but people were not staying home enough and more cases keep popping up in a county where people have to travel an hour to even get a test... and yet the numbers keep going up... so here we go...) In my area, police also said they are no longer responding to "minor crime" in order to reduce covid-19 spread.

I am sick, from we don't know what, respiratory bug, and I'm high risk... and now all this. Could just be a cold/asthma but the last time I ended up with respiratory cold I ended up with pneumonia for months and needing lots of care - care that might soon be really hard to get. I feel really helpless and vulnerable. I'm totally ok though, at home, enough to survive here while I recover - and hopefully quickly!

The mental battle is harder than the physical one. My brain knows how to SURVIVE in a crisis, how to help in a crisis, but not so how to much sit, wait, and rest, so I can better heal up and handle the situation. Therapist and PT won't let me come in person even if I wanted to do so, but they are offering support by phone and email... also hard because I know they are starting to get weary and overwhelmed already with others needing support. I'm not asking for more mental health or routine health care right now. Just want to get physically healthy...

But the mental battle is the hardest for me right now. UGH PTSD.

I tested negative!
Yay!
On that note, dogs do not get Covid-19. That's been confirmed now. Your pets are safe.
You have no idea how much relief this gives me. SD sneezed the other day and I went straight to "hes dying!!!!"
So it's already been noted that WHO let the dogs out.
 Loved this!
Police are assaulted? So what? 3rd time today. Next call.
Healthcare workers are exposed to a biohazard? So what? 3rd time today. Next call.

But flip it around?

Police are exposed to a biohazard?
Healthcare worker is violently assaulted?
Yep. There goes the rest of your week.
exactly!
I'm really concerned there is this hyper-focus on first responders.
Yep - they always do. Its up to the first responders to "fix it" because most people don't understand what is going on at the emergency management level. People are just unreal. I worked 911 for SARS, Ebola, Y2K, 9/11 and anthrax and you would be amazed what people demand. The anthrax one was the worst -- People were sure they were being targeted by middle Eastern Terrorist because the media convinced them that was a thing. In my mid size town, with no military bases and no ties to anything in the middle east. :banghead:

Then one of the soap companies did a marketing campaign that involved mailing small packets of their product with a coupon to everyone in town Ya. It was white powder. No matter how many times we tried to explain it was an advertisement, with a marked packet, with all the company info right on the envelop -- people still demanded we sent them police and rescue because they were sure it was anthrax. They wanted an officer to test it on site (not a thing that was even possible). And when we declined they went to the media and said we were "letting them be at risk and letting them die." From cleaning soap.

It was an utter shit show --- and no one was ever ill because of it. When you add in any chance that people might actually get sick? Oh...the demands go up and up and up and all of public safety just gets crucified.
It's insane.

The majority of us who are going to be sick see already infected. Has this dawned on anyone else yet?

If you or anyone you live with is sick you aren't supposed to go out for two weeks.

I don't know what's going to happen. I'm thinking the big thing is logistics. That's the real big problem now. The disruption in the supply chain.

But without falling into politics? I think the army is going to be in charge of everything in very short order. It's a giant reshuffling of power globally. I'm speculating, but there is good background evidence . IMO.

It's not going to be self policing or self quarantine, though that's how a they're saying it? It's gone beyond that.

My kid's on an army base a few states away, I know he can't tell me anything, I wish he could!

How not to discuss politics when the decisions are being made for us politically, and enforced by implicit threat of getting shot.

It's interesting to see the dictatorial tendencies of the various central planners coming out into the light of day

The adage "never let a crisis go to waste"

and the tyrant's plea of "necessity"

are a couple of keys to watch out for.

Well. This is escalating quickly. My city has gone from 1 confirmed case to 39 with 2 serious in the space of a week.

Florida has 25 new confirmed inside of a few days. 2 are in Orange county, which is Orlando. I don't live in Orlando but I live just outside it, mins from the Orlando/Orange county line and do work in Orange county. So, though still only 1 in my county, it is still not a comfort that my county isn't gaining as the counties around me are.

If people stopped buying toliet paper and self quaritined themselves, maybe it wouldn't spread so fast.

No mass gatherings? Let's go mass gather at grocery stores! ugh.)

This! If they stopped doing this, maybe it would stop spreading so fast!

I am sick, from we don't know what, respiratory bug, and I'm high risk

Can you get tested for Covid-19 to ensure you are in the clear? Of that anyway?

You have no idea how much relief this gives me. SD sneezed the other day and I went straight to "hes dying!!!!

Mine was throwing up and had bad runs. He has a sensitive stomach so normally its not a big deal but, yes, my head went straight to "he'd dying" too. Def a releif to know it cant spread to dogs and other animals.

Part the of numbers thing is a function of testing ramping up. The number of people infected is no doubt going up too but, at least in the US, there's been a limited supply of test kits and, as a result, limited testing. That makes it hard to know, accurately, how wide spread the infection actually is. Especially considering that people can have the virus and have no symptoms, so they won't be tested. So, the number of positive tests might double, but it COULD be because they tested 10 as many people, not because the rate of infection has doubled.

If I understood @Friday 's post correctly, it's ok to discuss politics as it directly pertains to this situation. Just, maybe, no long dissertations on the dangers of democracy? (I could be wrong!) I share your concern about "the tyrants plea of necessity". Could be just me, being paranoid. This IS a kind of emergency, of course, but it can be handled with common sense and reason.

This.

If you have to go out, remember to wash your hands, avoid touching your face, avoid crowds, ect, ect. Nothing you haven't been told a million times already I'm sure. It really does help.
I've been noticing something interesting here. As I think @Sideways (and probably a few other people) mentioned, I have been going into small grocers (mom & pop shops) and even the smaller chains (Safeway & Co-op) haven't been nearly as crazy as Wal-mart, Costco and Loblaws.
I wasn't even considering those places before because they don't have massive supply chains or even a lot of square footage in shelf space. I'd assumed they would be the first places stripped bare. So far they've been out of TP, but still have food and other necessities. They aren't stupid busy and crammed with panicky hoards of TP seeking disease sponges.

I don't mind paying a little more when there's actually something to buy, bonus points when I don't end up asshole to elbows in a TP moron mob.
