I have a soft spot for Yoko. Even though she is often a punchline, some of her work is really v...

Thanks I appreciate that, I do have a lot of exposure to victims of all types from work, thats probababy part of it.

But! This is may be off topic so I'll keep it brief.
Because of your reply I thought about why I didnt automatically buy Yoko as being sincere about female victims....its because she's always been portrayed as a controlling manipulator that used sex and femininity to get ahead!

If thats not true and its only been successfully attributed to her because she's a woman, then she is a victim because she's a woman! :wideeyed:

Purely the fact that this is considered wrong? For women? Wait for it....

;)

...reverse the gender. How is it wrong to use masculinity to get ahead, again?

What are masculine traits? Strength. Leadership. Courage. Clear headedness. (List goes on.)
What are feminine traits? Guile. Manipulation. Deceitfulness. Weakness. Sex. (List goes on.)

Noooooo disparity there. Cough.

Ive known lots of men that used sex, manipulation, guile and deceitfulness to get ahead. They're all financial advisors or brokers too. Probably just coincidence. :sneaky:

It would seriously piss me off to be in the military and treated like I had less value though, thats another thing I hadnt thought of in my original comment.

You know... I didn't believe sexism existed here, still, when I was 17. Then I joined a boys club. And,...

I have thought a lot about these things and it is not only the guys that tear women down. There are tons of women who are not worth very much, they sleep around, try to cheat others out of their money, put kids into this world to abuse them. There are just tons of women that give our gender a bad name.

Disgusted by the fact that being chewed out for work performance that is no different or many times much better than my male counterparts makes me fume. To top that off these pathetic excuses of men think they can get it going on in the workplace.

I dream of putting on Boxing gloves and hitting them right where it hurts.

im completely uninformed about it other than what i have read here, but i think this is an important project for sure. especially because she is a woman of colour and she has also copped a whole lot of public abuse. i dont know anything really about her personal life. but interactive art like this that involves the viewer as the creator is inclusive and empowering, especially for abused women. she left it open for people to express themselves in any way that they wish. i just love the idea of holding a mirror like that and giving people and opportunity to access their own power. i hope it is as good as it sounds because it could be a huge healing thing for a lot of women.

also can i just say as a non binary trans person, seeing posts in this thread acknowledging genders other than 'male' 'female' without a response of resistance surprised me and was affirming like omg people care that i exist ~gushing~

Hell yes! And I sat with a young transitioning person whilst on prac and worked with them on how to make a film about their transitioning. It is important that all points of view are included and that those that come after us have a space to be in.

My current presentation for years 11 and 12 (Senior School in Australia) is about artists that use Gender/Sexuality, Biology and Race/Ethnicity in their art. Part of the learning the students do is that there are about 27 variations on gender and sexuality - I would copy and paste what I have written it here for you to read as it is pretty good I think - but I can't do that until after marking or I could get done for plagiarism. (I put gender/sexuality together as I am only allowed three foci.)

The fact that I was good with students of different genders was seen as a bonus when I was out on my teaching prac. There was definitely groups of students discussing their genders and not being of any of the dominant genders.

The fact I was inclusive of all the multiple variations of sexualities was also seen as that I had lot to offer.

The tides are shifting, slowly, but they are shifting. There is a place for all of us.

She wouldn't believe the horror story I would tell her. I think that exposing such openness about harm is a bit distasteful but that's just me. I know she probably means well but she could set off terrible triggers for a lot of victims.

Well done Ms Spock and thnx for the posting.
Sounds to me to be a really lovely idea for an exhibition.... I love yoko
I really think this could help my therapy situation at the moment too.... hmm I think I might just give it a go.
