Sufferers: If You Had A Ptsd Support Group In Your Community Would You Go?

Ew... I would NOT be in a group with people who would not or have not been in a clinical setting....

Thanks for the feedback @Albatross. As an example only, what if it was a police officer who was afraid to lose their job? Still no? Just asking cause maybe some people would not go, because of that and i did not think of that-looking for input

If your considering facilitating they have training.

First step, is to find a facilitator that is willing. Second step would be to get them trained in peer support

P.S. I had an ex cop coworker who suicided and flew under the radar... he blew his head off on the front porch and left his wife and 3 kids to find him when they came home... so the cop example wasn't particularly helpful. It was bravado for him, he was resistant to help... and he ended up dead.

I think for many people a clinical setting wouldn't be ideal. Why 12 step groups are anonymous. JMHO. Not sure if most suicides are a case of bravado..?

I could never find it again, but there was a trauma/ ptsd -?, I can't recall- church program I read bout online with a facilitator that was really successful in San Francisco, but you didn't have to talk about specific traumas.

The screening would not happen no. I have thought about this as well.

There are a myriad of support groups without screening.

Is it PTSD itself that makes this a safety concern? This is a valid concern for sure

If I had to be approved by professionals to join a support group, I probably wouldn't go.
