Halloween 2016

I like the idea someone stated about going to the party with a strategy. Do some grounding exercises first, determine what you will do if you are triggered, then determine the logistics of your attendance - what time will you arrive? How long will you stay? Who will you go with? What will be your excuse for leaving? How will you conduct yourself? Have something planned after the party where you can have space to evaluate how you did. Maybe do some journaling. Then do something that you find grounding. If you can handle it, it may be a good learning experience. You might learn valuable information that could help you heal. Or if it ends up being uneventful for PTSD symptoms, own it as a victory and enjoy the fact that you went out and had fun!

We dont really celebrate it the same in the UK, however as others have said i would have a strategy in place to help you feel safe and in control and go along and have a good time. You can leave if it becomes too much.
The likelihood is that you will have a good time and be glad that you went.
Have a good time and enjoy Halloween.
Take care

All l remember is l was in charge of my little brother, so l brought two eggs for protection. Maybe l was 12, and l accidently dropped them in someone's front door floor area as l was reaching for outheld candy dish. I was going to throw the eggs if someone attacked us. Kid logic of course. I have to say, the lady's expression was priceless.

Man, I remember in the 70's when I was young, Halloween was my favorite holiday...I got to play dre...
Yep, things have chanced in our culture. I am totally staying out of halloween, I do enjoy fall harvest celebrations but like you already mentioned people now use the holiday to commit crimes and who in their right mind would want a part of that?

Especially for PTSD sufferers, I can not even stomach thinking about watching scary movies anymore. Before I got PTSD I watched a lot of scary movies, no problem: Psycho, the birds, the thing, aliens, final destination. Will most likely never watch them again because now everything is different.

Halloween is VERY triggering for me for obvious reasons. Things not good transpired around it. I turn out my outside light like a prude and hide in my house freaking out.

Quite sad that a fun holiday for kids can be freak out moments for adults.

I never figured out how one could get a razor blade inside of a sealed small chocolate. You can reseal it but it's rather small.

In any case. I agree that holidays aren't as they once were but I agree to lean on fond memories and make them as they once were. Most holidays are about tradition anyway. Make new and good traditions around it to make it a good time of the year again.
