I Need Some Help With A Survey, If Anyone Could Please Take A Look

Hey, friends, my daughter is working on her senior research project and has to make a survey questioning gender identity and sexual orientation. She doesn't want to offend anyone by including incorrect options or by neglecting to include any that should be reflected.

Specifically, the research is on prevalence rates, psychological effects, and resiliency factors of technology-facilitated sexual violence in university students.

She will be asking participants to check a box for gender identity and a box for sexual orientation.

I'm embarrassed. She rattled off a whole bunch of options to me, and I've forgotten all but the obvious, and please forgive my ignorance if I make a mistake...

Male, female, m to f transgender, f to m transgender. I can't remember any more (my brain is tired) .

Straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, asexual, ugh, that's it for me.

I would be grateful (and so would Lindsey) for any comments and suggestions. Thank you!

It could be phrased less offensively.

'Transgender' isn't a gender.
It's a descriptor of if one identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth, or not.

Ditto excluding intersex people. (A hint: Intersex people don't often have a corresponding gender status in either cis or trans populations. The 'norm' gets all sort of confusing and traumatizing, there.)

Pansexual, to orientation, as the very least addition.
For technically 'opposite' of asexual, even if they're different spectrums.

Just wondering as I think replies and selecting as replies come in can get confusing.

I would include gender binary & sexual fluidity & queer. some terms above are a bit archaic.

I admire you helping your daughter is have helped the 4 grown children I have with homework through the years. I'm not sure if you have a site that can help you for what you need and are asking or. I'm not sure if you have a site that can help you for what you need and are asking or. The site is for PTSD Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I could be wrong but maybe you want lgbtq.

Thanks, Ronin. I am quite ignorant of the accepted language. I live in a place where sexual preference and gender identity are pretty much non-issues. If people have a problem with this, they generally keep that to themselves.

Part of my job includes issuing marriage licenses, and gender isn't even included in the application.

I love me my Canada . :)

Jacqueline, I should have explained...sorry! I have to admit, I preferred helping her with her existentialism paper more than this .

My daughter has a degree in psychology, and this research is for grad school. She wants to specialize in human sexuality. I'm a very proud mom, and feeling a bit smug because I raised my kids to be comfortable with their sexuality.
