DID How to ask about alters, grumpy the cat

Thank you for such valuable insight. It helps me realize to just back off and not worry about it so much.
Think that it isn't my business, it's just l felt like l was talking to different people and some didn't remember what they told me, but l realized it wasn't intentionally, and was able to let go of the uncertainty of what, don't you remember you said this to me. This is a guy friend and l enjoy his friendship enough to just enjoy the nuances. I am far from perfect myself so l just need to cool my waterjets and just relax from here on out.

As an ex-multiple, my advice is not to ask.

The primary reason is, if she wants you to know, she'll tell you herself.

Multiples do their best to hide their DID from both themselves and others. Asking would make her and/or her alters highly uncomfortable at the least, and quite possibly very frightened.

Generally speaking, the only multiples who flaunt their multiplicity also have BPD. In such a case, the person might enjoy talking about her disorder, but I wouldn't want to feed her personality disorder by bringing up the topic.

Disagree on principle.

Similar as 'autism is just a different neurotype' movement. To many multiplicity is simply a cultural difference, creative coping mechanism / depth of internalizing it over the years varies, a difference in neurotype, or a spiritual system linked identity.

Automatically pathologizing awareness of it and conversations of it and/or medicalizing of it shows both not being aware of that community, and cultural connotations of that disorder & variations of it.
