I haven't posted for 3 years and posted yesterday.... and now hubby walked in through the door.... he had been out working... and took our son to school... I said

"Hi babes did you get Callum to school OK?" and he said

"Who?"

My heart flipped over.... it hasn't happened for at least a year... he got home OK, but nothing is familiar, he knew who I was (previously he didn't even though we have been together 27 years - we are both just 45) but he doesn't remember having a son and not sure what he did this morning....

He has said to leave him alone... I have work to do and just getting on in the spare room....

My heart is breaking.... will it ever stop? I am scared?

Does this happened to anyone elses PTSD sufferer? Should I call the doctor? It usually just goes away after a few hours..... I just didnt think it would happen after not happeniung for so long...

I am so sad.. scared... how horrible for my hubby too :(

Thanks guys

Love Sunshine

It's dissociation. Everyone dissociates to SOME degree. Have you ever daydreamed? That's a very very very mild form. It's normal for people with trauma. He probably encountered a trigger on the way back home; if you're worried I would ask a psychiatrist about coping strategies/ grounding techniques for dissociation, so you can help him next time it happens.

It can be very very scary, both for the sufferer and the supporter, but once you know how to manage it, and his symptoms; it should be easier. Just don't panic- that usually makes it worse.

Forgetting you have a child... does he have any other diagnosis? Was he having flashbacks at the time?

On the other hand, it might not have registered with him what you were asking. How long did he not know he had a child for?

He was hazy for several hours and then fell asleep for the afternoon - from about 1pm/2pm until 6pm ish. He then ate with us. He didnt let on with our son gave him a hug and said hello. My husband was very quiet, watched some TV and then I put my son to bed at 9pm. My husband said he was shattered and went to be around 9.30pm too.

He slept until just now so around 11 hours sleep.

He still feels spaced out - like "nothing is real" He seems like a zombie.... I asked a few questions... and tried to work out what happened yesterday - he did some work at a clients place and now can no remember doing it or driving home.

He is trying to get some work done this morning - just to keep his brain occupied....

Im scared.

This hasnt happened for several years :(

Do you know what his triggers are? Do you know how to ground him? Had he been a doctor last time? ( alot...

Bless you Zoogal...

Triggers..... me :( and our son .. although this isn't so much anymore....

Other triggers.... now I dont know.... just really bad dreams and flashbacks out of the blue...

He did go to A and E when is happened badly last time.... he sort of came round after several hours/ days and we didnt really do anything after - I am embarrassed to say ... I couldnt push it.... he just wants to get on....

He didnt recognize me at all and was lost in London - he didnt know who he was... it was a f xxxing nightmare... and I just dont want to experience this again :( xxxx
