I got a w2 in the mail and it looked weird because of the postal stamp. I opened up the mail and it was a W2 from a job I never worked at. They left the second part of the tax return document in the package. My city was spelled wrong as well. If it was spelled wrong how did it make it to the mailbox of my father address?? Again let me remind you my snap application with my SSN disappeared from my father mailbox in January. I hope I posted this in the right place, I'm working on it. for those of you who seem confused I was blogging on here about my life especially father. I love this website

@Lauren Taylor - I'be moved your post into Employment and Education.

Please consider starting a diary thread, in order to bring some organization to your posts. You can add to it as much as you like, and it will be in one place, so you and others can find it easily. The posts in a diary can be about any topic - we don't move them.

Zip code. Cities are often spelled wrong. Like the city I lived in in Kansas was Overland Park. People often put OP + zip code and it always made it. Since its just outside of Kansas City some have even put Kansas City + zip and it made it. Other examples is it was a block or so from other small cities like Shawnee, Mission, and Shawnee Mission and if any of those were on there, as long as the zip was right it would make it.

Same here. I live in a small city just outside of Orlando with many other small cities and as long as the zip is correct it would make it.

Most post offices are used to that as are the mail men. In my experience anyway.

As to the issue, W2s don't generally have spelling errors. I would contact the IRS first. They have a contact for W2s handwritten on their online thing. Turbo Tax I think. That's the best way to figure that out. You shouldn't be paying taxes on a job you never got money from.

Also make sure to call your State if you pay State taxes.

Also, my when identity was stolen, I called each credit bureau and put a security thing on it. Forgot what they call it but basically if I (or anyone) applies for credit or anything that requires my credit to be ran, I have to answer extra questions. I'm not 100% about how it works but it's not a full freeze but a security measure.

Also, downlod Credit Karma to keep a close eye on your credit and report anything odd right away. It's free and very helpful!

You are allowed a free full credit report print out from each bureau once a year.

Keeping a close eye on your credit and disputing anything odd right away is the way to go with that. And reporting the odd W2 to the IRS and DON'T add it to your tax report. Report it before filing.
