Music Sounds Different - Lack Of Depth

Hello

This is bugging me and nobody has answers or direction to help me figure this out.

Recently I listened to music again and it sounds gross. The songs that once enveloped and inspired me to fly my spirits now makes me frown.

My studio quality AKG headphones sound like I am in a box with crumpled newspapers. There are hisses and cusps. Rich full body sound has become shallow and radio like. My feelings tell me to smash it all and cry and break more things if no tears come... i know i must not be alone. My boombastic boogie lost its boom and boogie...now just bastic boogers. NOT KOOL.

For audiophiles I am using AKG K514mk2 headphones and a HiFi audio Sony NZW player. Files are encoded in FLAC loseless for classical and other in 320kbp CBR mp3.

I had my ears checked a while back and doc says no problem.

Music was a sanctuary and now it is lost.

WHY MY MUSIC SOUND LIKE SH1T?

It could be a dissociative phenomenon. When I'm numbed out, music sounds like fake garbled noise. It doesn't actually change, I know it's the same, but it sounds different. Flat.

You could try using other ways to ground and lower stress in your system and then see if the music improves even slightly. I'd try grounding several times before trying to listen to the music again.

It could also be that maybe it's time for new music, new songs, ones that may not stir up feelings from the past.

It could also be that perhaps the equipment is broken. There are a lot of possible reasons why. I hope you figure out what's going on and find a way to enjoy music again.

Yeah, I would experiment with that. I think there may be problems the doctors simply can not locate. Do your own research on that, try to figure out online what the cause could be.
Before PTSD I never had Tinnitus either, so that was a new phenomenon. PTSD changes your brain and your sensory system to the max.
Don't give up. Do meditation and then listen to a piece of music, then try tinnitus training perhaps for a while (U Tube), try different sound files, adjusting the decibels, hertz, treble, base.

I am very sensitive to how music sounds too, as your brain heals your sensory system will improve. That includes all senses, not just hearing.

Doesn't matter if you have the best headphones in the world if you're listening to compressed files (like MP3s) that are missing most of the sound. For full total audio, you'll need either the huge mastered files, or to go OldSchool.

Conversely, if everything is the same as it was?

- Hearing Damage (go to doc, get tested)
- Ear or Sinus infection (ditto, but easy fix with meds)
- Anhedonia (usually a sign of depression)
- Disassociation

Would be my short list of things to rule out

Today was sunny.
I decided to emerge outdoors to touch the grass and get some sunshine.

I prepared for this and found a small place to relax. Floating in the back of my mind i wished i could put up signs Do not disturb, please F_off, please leave me alone i am relaxing.

Pretty sure I was grounded to nature but on gaurd. The sky was blue. I brought a thermos with tea along with my music list.

I ruled out it is not equipment. I really was hoping it would be equipment so i know it is not me.

I tried different headphones/player and same FLATness.

Losing my friendship with sound...what did I ever do to lose you?

Thank you all for responses.

It could be a dissociative phenomenon. When I'm numbed out, music sounds like fake garbled noise. It...

Is it possible to be numbed out constantly? ... what causes numbing out. I thought numbing was only when i am overloaded by others.

Dear birds please keep singing. I promise one day i will hear your songs again.

Mind if I ask, how long ago were they checked? Did you have any wax build up at the time, and have...

I had them checked days following the first time this happened and my ears were fine. I cleaned my ears last night. My genetics have a profile for dry wax. Both my nostrils are clear. My doc is away for few weeks.

Music is therapy until it grosses me out or frustrates me.

FYI: I just stumbled on info that one of the meds messes with hearing.

/propranolol-and-distorted-pitch-perception/

I was prescribed propranolol for headaches.

I will show this to doc

The same thing happens to me. On some days, the music hits me so hard i feel like im drugged. Feels great listening to music those days.

But then sometimes the music sounds like it has no substance. At all. Just words and a tune.

It sucks because i love that body high i get from listening to heavy instrumentals
