@hodge I was being a smart-ass but, nope, can't blame you at all! And yep, even the absolute post Obama dignity vacuume is to be mourned!

Obama was the only president in my lifetime to have no scandals. I so appreciate that. And I'm 54. So JFK was the first president in my lifetime, and we all know what he did. Not that he didn't save the world during the Cuban Missile Crisis -- he did -- but he also was a horrible womanizer.

I still think this must be some kind of hack job. Everywhere I go online is taking forever to load up. This is not normal.

JFK... Not that he didn't save the world during the Cuban Missile Crisis --

Absolutely not picking on you Hodge, this one needs a little perspective generally, and you happened to provide one of the prime historical examples.

jFK, had also given approval for the bay of pigs invasion of Cuba. Kick a wasps nest, and at least expect some buzzing.

Bringing that into today's terms,. The Russian attack on Georgia (the one in the Caucasus) and the aid to Assad can be seen as payback for taking Kosovo from Serbia (there's a lot of pan- slavist sentiment between Russia and serbia)

And, if the Putin regime is stirring the crap and trolling the united state regime (I have difficulty believing many of the claims that are being floated), then it is a very mild response to the stationing of united state nukes and anti missile radar and missile batteries in the former Soviet empire, the carrying out of large scale military exercises adjacent to the Russian border, and the organisation of coups in places like Ukraine

There's amazing continuity of personnel all through the twentieth century, with the same people staying in key positions in regimes of (supposedly) different colours.

Those people having come from various key crony cRapitalist companies (usually but not always on wallstreet), and served their time in the council on foreign relations, and the trilateral commission.

Something on the logic of why empires throughout history (Greek, Roman, British, and united state) are constantly at war

And why wars progress through history from being limited actions with clearly defined aims, to more and more open ended and poorly defined continuous wars, like
"The war to make a world safe for (Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler...) "
"The war to (make) all wars"
"The cold war"
"The war (of) terror"

Salerno is using the class theory of du Noyer and Comte ( later stolen in a very confused and distorted form by Marx, via Saint-Simon. Saint-Simon never did any reading, he just tagged along at soirées, hence his confusion), in which there are two classes,. A small parasitic class of rulers, and a much larger, productive class of ruled.
It's actually a far more useful system for class analysis.

The ruling class lives in constant fear that the much larger ruled class will achieve class consciousness, and depose them. Hence the constant string of scares crises and wars, to distract the attention of the ruled class, and to allow its continued exploitation by the ruling class.

And as a pdf with references http://www.independent.org/pdf/tir/tir_12_03_06_salerno.pdf

Though not touched on in the talk, This two class theory also explains the reason for state control of:
  • Money (so that the state can inflate the supply, invisibly taxing all other users of money)
  • Education (so it can teach young minds why they need parasitic rulers and their wars)
  • Communication (so it can listen in to your phonecalls, and read your mail)
  • Violence (so it can threaten, cage or kill you)
  • Legislation (to write the rules of the game in its own favour)

in which there are two classes,. A small parasitic class of rulers, and a much larger, productive class of ruled.
I don't necessarily believe it HAS to be that way, but I'm inclined to believe it IS that way. And that ruling class includes people like Wall Street bankers,, which is why THEY get bailed out and regular people, not so much.

How could I forget Jimmy Carter?
I think we tend to remember the outrageous stuff. A friend, who was a fundamentalist, conservative, Texan once remarked that he couldn't think of a Democratic president who was a 'real' Christian. I immediately mentioned Jimmy Carter. He had to agree and was much chastened. LOL
