Don't know how many of you have seen this, or if I'm the first to post it. But, it's a poster story for PTSD, heroism, modesty and humility

One more good man trying to explain Post Traumatic Stress. Will it make a difference? And, what will that difference be?

If you watch Sgt. Carter on Letterman (it's one of the youtube links) he tries to explain how adjustments help us cope. What he doesn't say is the adjustments never end. It may be because he doesn't understand that yet.

Maybe we'll see him on this site some day.

Your right on there SD. You constantly see returned veterans doing good things and talking about how they overcame their PTSD and it's all within a year of them coming home. Some even return to service and go back overseas.

I can only say IMO, that those are the ones with minor symptoms and might even be construed as 'Adjustment Disorder' not PTSD. But they are the warning signs nether the less and should not be ignored, speaking from experience here. If I had got the proper help when i returned from East Timor rather than being shrugged off, I might not be a member of this forum.

People like SGT Carter I don't doubt could have PTSD, but like you said SD, a couple of years down the track when he realises that those adjustments have to keep happening we might very well see him on this site.

I would first like to say that I have tremendous respect and feel honored by the presence of a soldier like Sgt Carter. No one gets the CMH for nothing.

But I have to say this; the general public both here and in every other country that is fighting in a war have no idea, none what so ever of the battle which constantly rages in us. What we go though on a daily basis and how this struggle never ends, never. After 45 years I still have such terrible bouts of depression that suicide is often on my mind. And all the other things what we all suffer as well. The only ones that are aware of this are, in my case, my wife, my doctor, my va group and ya'll here.

People where I live just think I'm a 'bad' person or crazy. And I'm sure it's that way for many.

I respect what soldiers do and the sacrifices that they make to keep us free. For most others, it's just another youtube moment.
