U.s. eclipse

Totality here in KY; friend came over we did two experiments: one with plastic tub of water and was able to see the total eclipse in the tub of water (reflecting off the sun!); next: we cut a tiny hole in white paper and placed over second paper, and we saw a very small solar eclipse reflection onto the paper through the tiny hole as the moon covered the sun. Then, I pointed the handycam at sun through viewfinder and videoed the eclipse. Looked notta like the great pictures @lostforgottensoul so generously and caringly posted here! Thanks @lostforgottensoul! My video was of a very hazy sun then as moon began to cover it, then what seemed to be little stars all around it however not a clear video of the solar eclipse. So very exciting! I read that the parents, grandparents most likely never ever witnessed a solar eclipse. What a spectacular and glorious day this has been! Woohoo!

Intresting! I don't think you can post video but I'd love to see pictures of it or screen shots of the paused video! There were several out there with the old hole in a box thing. I wonder how well that worked. Maybe a phone in the box to get video of it? I don't know. The news cast said they had to have a special filter on the lense of the camera to get those videos of it. I wonder what sort of filter that is.

Was hesitant to mention the not so great video I shot of the solar eclipse today because I am a nerd when it comes to hooking up my handycam and retrieving eclipse video from same. I did get video of the sun but my video did not show moon coming over it, only stars and a hazy sun thingee! Poop!

Yes, it was a blast for me doing the experiments @lostforgottensoul! Oh so much fun! I was animated and excited like a child seeing Christmas morn for first time! Hoot! Another friend suggested the water tub and it worked! Never thought about putting phone into box - sounds like a great idea for Eclipse-2024!

When I tried to shoot video of eclipse occurring/reflecting into water bucket - the wind was blowing a bit and made tiny ripples in water so video not so much! Could see the eclipse when water calmed down! Woohoo!

I'm a nerd of all things! No shame in that! I enjoy inventing so that sounded like a really cool project/experienment to do! Maybe some research into the sort of filters needed to get those good video of it and then figure out how to recreate that. That actually sound like fun!

I've never heard of seeing it through water so thats pretty inventive all by itself!

It was sooo cool @lostforgottensoul viewing the solar eclipse by looking into the water tub! Woohoo! I obtained this bright idea from an engineer friend of mine who had suggested this a few days prior to eclipse.

Here is a NASA link
I like @hodge love NASA's website, so thank you and also thank you @SheilaKathy re NASA website! What an incredible day 8/21/17 will forever remain in my mind!:singing:

Here's a couple of pics I took yesterday. Mainly I just enjoyed the experience. If you get a chance to see the 2024 eclipse in the path of Totality, do! It's totally worth it.
