Crazy thoughts

Hi I was at the doctors yesterday sitting waiting. And an older guy came in.. He started to watch the children play... And all I could think was this guy is a pedophile...

Now how messed up is that.. He was probably a grandpa... But all I felt at the time was dirty bastard....

Sometimes i don't understand my thoughts... My thinking.... I keep on reminding myself that not all men are pedophiles.....

Do you ever have these kind of assumptions?... And if so how do you deal with it... Knowing is a cognitive Distortion...?

I have yes. But I know that I would never know if it’s true or not, so I try to let them go.

LOL -- so this comes up in police/dispatch a lot. You know you have been in the field to long when you see a boy scout troop leader. I don't know about the rest of you - but the first word that comes to most of our minds is....pedophile.

The only way to deal with it is to acknowledge you do it - and ask yourself if it applies in every situation

On occasion I've lived to regret losing that cognitive skill from the meds though

I do this always. I don't trust any man around children and I struggle. It triggers me when I think these things and it's very painful

One can't always be right "erring on the side of caution", isn't a bad way of looking at risk analysis :)
