Please help! antidepressant really not dissolving?

This is hard to post about, but I’m quite astounded and wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

I had a bm and noticed my antidepressant that I took 7 hours ago right there not dissolved.

WTF does this mean? Could this be happening all the time?

What sort of pill is it?
If it's one of those gelatine capsules, I imagine it's possible for it to not dissolve fully before being passed. So long as it isn't totally intact, the medicine inside probably came out of the pill as it was supposed to.

If it's a standard compressed corn starch sugar coated tablet/caplet. Then yeah that would be an issue.

Either way I'd speak to my pharmacist and or doctor about it.

It’s like an ibprofin looking pill that has powdery white stuff in the middle. Can they give me a sugar pill? How would I know?

It’s pretty odd that it wouldn’t digest. Definitely talk to a pharmacist and your doc!

Are you supposed to take the pill on an empty stomach? or with food? When taking with food, the Rx needs to be digested in an alkaline environment in the small intestine in order to activate properly, and the food (sort of) "protects" the pill so that it can make it intact through the stomach and into the small intestine. The opposite is true for an empty stomach, the Rx needs to be digested in an acidic environment, in the stomach in order to activate properly.

Citrus fruits and juices, especially grapefruit juice, can cause big issues with meds.

And anything that speeds up the digestive system, like stimulants or hot/spicy foods can cause med issues if the meds aren't allowed time to digest.

If this is a one time issue, not a big deal, most meds aren't effected by 1 iffy dose. If it happens more than once, probably best to contact your pharmacist.

Ring your doctor to let them know that your passing your pills whole, and they’ll most likely prescribe a different type/delivery.

I doubt it's a sugar pill.
By sugar coated I mean that the type of pill that is a compressed powder.
They mix the active medicinal ingredient with an inert digestible filler such as corn starch. They then compress it in a form press and spray it with a coloured coat of glucose. This is to hold the pill together, prevent it from adhering to the mucosa of the throat and not taste nauseatingly bitter while it's in your mouth prior to swallowing it.

Actual sugar pills are used primarily in drug trials to determine if a drugs effectiveness is a result of chemistry or the power of suggestion, aka the placebo effect.
