News Article claiming divorce caused ptsd

I don't like articles like this, it seems to spread ignorance and not information... not that I want to be unique and be the only kid on my block with this mental illness...but it almost seems to be a 'fad' right now.... like we need one more barrage of misunderstanding and ignorance.... the article made me tired.

What's even more interesting is that the author of the article doesn't mention what led to the divorce, and calls PTSD "a mental illness".

It was so generalized and non-descript (the three-year-old begging a parent not to leave is extremely common, divorces are also well-known to cause sleeplessness, stress, and depression) that it raised a few red flags.

So many questions left unanswered; so much circuitous argument between "divorce caused my PTSD", "I'm not a vet", and the "I'm not looking for pity"; and just enough doubt thrown in to actually cause pity....

Something doesn't feel right. It's too simple, too clean, too easy a resolution, too... perfect. All the right words, but nothing said. Am I reading this wrong? I could use a second set of eyes.

Divorce doesn't cause PTSD. Sorry but it doesn't.

This is interesting to me. I’m a supporter on this forum and don’t suffer from PTSD, so I’m naturally not in any position to have any sort of opinion on it. But there have been moments, in this forum and offline, where I’ve wondered, really, that qualifies for a diagnosis? Where’s the difference between situationally induced anxiety and depression then? Could anyone who finds themselves at a Ts office after a death of a loved one or bad breakup be said to have PTSD if they can’t get certain moments and feelings out of their head? I’ve been through some shoddy stuff and suffer from it to this day. Do i qualify? The difference was much clearer to me before it became such a „Thing.“

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Basics

There has to be. HAS to be this

Criteria A

Criterion A outlines events that are considered traumatic enough for a PTSD diagnosis, which include but not limited to, war as a combatant or civilian, threatened or actual physical assault (robbery, mugging, physical attack, childhood physical abuse), threatened or actual sexual violation (forced sexual penetration, alcohol / drug-facilitated sexual penetration, abusive sexual contact, noncontact sexual abuse, sexual trafficking), being kidnapped, taken hostage, terrorist attack, torture, prisoner of war, natural or man-made disasters, medical (waking during surgery, anaphylactic shock) and severe motor vehicle accidents.

Whilst every conceivable type of trauma is impossible to list, the DSM clearly outlines a pervasive pattern of extreme violence or abnormal event not considered normal within life. Normal death, life threatening illness, debilitating medical illness, relationship breakdowns and other stressors considered part of normal life, are not necessarily considered a traumatic event by definition for PTSD. These lesser events are covered under other diagnoses, such as Adjustment Disorders, where a single stressor is responsible.https://www.myptsd.com/threads/ptsd-diagnosis.87466/
