Just because someone, male or female, says that someone else "did this" or "did that" to them does not really mean it DID happen. At the same time, it also does not mean that it DID NOT happen. There is supposed to be this thing about innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law before a jury of our peers. Sadly too many people are blowing this very real traumatic issue way out of proportion, and that will be a downfall for all victims, I feel.

I always prefer to believe someone if they make a claim, but I always thought that innocent until proven guilty applied to the one acusing as well (not guilty of making false allegations). I think many sexual assaults of varying kind go underreported due to victim-blaming and people being unable to speak about due to PTSD avoidance symptoms. There's probably a lot of reasons actually that I haven't listed. I believe when a lot of people have made allegations against the person too - e.g. Harvey Weinstein.

Oh, I do understand that, really I do. I also remember back a few times years ago when I was alleged to be a chimo, with zero grounds for the label- 1. I never had any contact with the kids; 2. the mothers (every time) made previous inquiries about my income with the follow up statement "how do we know if you aren't if we don't know about your income?" (which has to be the stupidest comment anyone can make); and every time those mothers (in individual assessments) were on welfare AND smoked. No joke. Essentially they were losers. And if anyone here is concerned that I could be, let me know and I can get a letter of reference from the PD if you wish. No problem for me to do that (I picked up a few letters like that when I was in volly firefighting or search and rescue). You see, people really are that stupid.

So I know well how it feels to be falsely accused of a sick crime. I also know how state CPS frowns heavily on parents pulling those kind of stunts.

@cactus_jack I agree with you about the innocent until proven guilty. Too many people are being judged without a jury of their peers. They are being judged in public and losing not only jobs, but family ect.

I agree that it’s important for people to be able to speak out, to call their abusers out, to let the world know.... It’s also important that these abusers be allowed to go through the process of a trial or court hearing to either prove their innocence or to be found guilty.

That’s what THIS country was founded on.....

That's a shitty thing to be accused of, I'm so sorry that happened to you. It annoys the crap out of me that these false allegations are taken seriously like this while real victims are victim-blamed by the same loser type people. What a horrible thing to do.

I think many sexual assaults of varying kind go underreported due to victim-blaming and people being unable to speak about due to PTSD avoidance symptoms.

That's partly why a lot of male sexual assault/abuse victims don't report the crime; about 1 in 4 eventually commit suicide. If there's no physical proof of injury, then in the eyes of the law the victim is lying... and women lack the anatomical ability to commit sexual violence.

I understand where the logic comes from, and like @cactus_jack said people really aren't that bright to begin with. But on the other hand, it doesn't help us when our own gender chimes in with "you're not a real man if you let a woman get away with beating the crap out of you".

On a far more disheartening note, many states have years or even decades of backlog for processing rape kits. Oftentimes, the female victims are billed to having those kits done, despite the evidence never making it to court. This means that both sides are literally getting screwed.

So between the machismo and the lack of documentable proof of harm, nobody wins. At first, many male survivors felt they had a chance to stand with the #metoo movement. Then we learned that the movement had been politically co-opted in a divisive manner... and we're now even more unwilling to come forward. Politics and religion are emotionally-charged topics, once you press that button on someone it becomes extremely challenging to reason with them.

Like many great ideas, the #metoo movement became an "us versus them" movement. Without a middle ground, Weinstein and Woody Allen win.

I've had to step back a bit and consider things from the bigger picture, it turns out that quietly discreet observation prevents about 90% of the problems in life. And it's been tough to put aside enough of the constant triggering to work with logic objectively from both sides. But out of respect to the basic idea, it's necessary in order to find the opportunities to learn and grow from.

Scope and relevance -- if it doesn't pay my rent, and if the folks involved aren't signing my paychecks, then it's not something I need to invest my time with.

Political warfare isn't going to process those decades of evidence. It's not going to stop abuse and assault, regardless of who runs what. I can't change the world on my own, although I wish I could. And this movement will do just fine without me.

It's not a male thing.

It's respect.
