I have an amazing trauma psychologist for almost 4 years now. During the Fall she found a small support group with another therapist. (A social worker) This group is not really organized, not consistent (usually 2x a month) and boundaries can be an issue. (Therapist, checks phone a lot and does a lot for her clients) I did try quitting and she begged me not to. Anyhow-these past few weeks I’ve been a mess. She has emailed me multiple times asking how I’m doing and offering a session. She is also a hugger. (I don’t think it’s bad-I like hugs) But I’m finding a conflict between the two therapist. My current one has strict boundaries for my safety. She said the group therapist does not. She said there is an ethical concern. My psych is going on vacation next month and does not want me to see the group therapist.
I love this therapist reaching out to me and checking on me-she says I’m never a bother and ends her short short email with “hugs.” But I don’t want there to be a conflict between the two. Thoughts!

A conflict between two therapists can lead you down a bad road as you’re not following one type of therapy. What I’m trying to say is that therapy is usually a set of ideas and techniques that overall support and build on one another. If you’re seeing someone else who has a different set of techniques that are in conflict, you may not move along in healing. Your original therapist has determined that strong boundaries are good for you, but her work is useless if you’re seeing someone else who has a different idea about boundaries. Does this make sense?

Yes! Definately!

I don’t want to lose my current therapist. My inner child lovessss this extra attention though-my gut though has red flags going up

I am not clear with who is who. Is "Psych" your Psychiatrist? Does your regular therapist of 4 years wa...

My current therapist is my psychologist. She wants me to have additional support but she is not sure it’s safe for me.

Your current therapist is right, any therapist begging you not to leave, pursuing contact out of session and offering individual sessions when she knows your already in individual therapy is crossing significant boundaries. Just because it feels good doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Your inner child with thank you for ending it now before getting enmeshed with a therapist that can’t hold her safely in the work you need to do.

I know there are online therapists, and telemedicine for psych care, maybe there would be an online...
I will look into that -thanks. It’s okay. It just makes it more difficult when she’s not my therapist just a group one. Both have complete opposite guidelines for me
