"I have known it for a long time but now I have experienced it. Now I know it not only with my intellect, but with my eyes, with my heart, with my stomach."

- Hermann Hesse

Wow...this is one I can really, really relate to. Thanks for posting it, hope.

I have just started reading some of the quotes here and am blown away. One that really got to me was posted by Marlene. "Of all the liars in the world, fear is the worst"

This one is has had a profound affect on me. Since I am especially fearful of almost everything.

Mother and I were having our usual evening chat last night when she started talking about how terribly shy I was as a child. She relates that I was extremely shy, but nothing in a detail. I find that somewhat suspicious. Details, give me details.

Is being shy and being afraid the same thing? If you are shy, aren't you afraid?

I came back and searched for this as it has many inspirationals for me. I was shocked that it was a dying thread, its to wonderful to die.

Hello Portabella,

Glad you reintroduced this thread. I've missed it whole bunches and I'd hate to see it actually die; I let it rest for a while, but suppose now is a good time to get motivated here again,...(smiles)...and so long as time permits.

Man's Influence
(Commitment)
Robert F. Kennedy, 1966

Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of the rest or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance...Few are willing to brave the disapproval of their fellows, the censure of their colleagues, the wrath of their society. Moral courage is a rarer commodity than bravery in battle or great intelligence. Yet it is the one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.

Quality
(Robert Pirsig)
Values

A person who knows how to fix motorcycles — with Quality — is less likely to run short of friends than one who doesn't. And they aren't going to see him as some kind of object either. Quality destroys objectivity every time.

Or if he takes whatever dull job he's stuck with — and they are all, sooner or later, dull — and, just to keep himself amused, starts to look for options of Quality, and secretly pursues these options, just for their own sake, thus making an art out of what he is doing, he's likely to discover that he becomes a much more interesting person and much less of an object to the people around him because his Quality decisions change him too. And not only the job and him, but others too, because the Quality tends to fan out like waves. The Quality job he didn't think anyone was going to see is seen, and the person who sees it feels a little better because of it and is likely to pass that feeling on to others, and in that way the Quality tends to keep on going. My personal feeling is that this is how any further improvements of the world will be done: by individuals making Quality decisions and that's all.

"I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me. I have accepted fear as a part of my life - specifically fear of change and fear of the unknown; and I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: Turn back, turn back, you'll die if you venture too far." ..

Hi cragger65, and thx for your comment here; ......

Very, very good, because that means that this thread is helpful and I'll keep it going.

Gee' how I've missed posting here and sharing in this way, and while giving thoughtful reflection to each and everything others and myself have already, or will become willing to post here.
