Atheist unite!!

There's a big difference between cult Satanists and groups like the Satanic Temple. I love the Satanic Temple. They're guarding our civil rights here in the USA against all the Christians who are trying to institute a theocratic state, which unfortunately is a huge, constant threat.

Cult Satanists are people using any excuse to torture and kill people. It has nothing to do with religion at all - just psychopaths doing whatever they want.

I am feeling ashamed and guilty of what happenned and all the wrong that was done to me. I know I don't have to feel ashamed neither guilty. Just wondering if these nasty feeling are a social inheritance from being grown up as Christian.
This stinks...
What do you think ?

I think shame is an unchallengeable feature of Christianity. Remember, Christianity teaches us we're all sinners, and thus bad people, from the moment we're conceived. And God actively sends bad people to Hell to literally be tortured for eternity - yes, literal never-ending physical torture. Add to that the horrifying messages around sex and gender all sects of Christianity support, and you have a religion that creates broken, miserable people. The messages persist long after a person has left the church they were raised in - I myself still struggle with shame 35 years after I left Christianity. The only option, obviously, is to stop raising kids within any kind of religious tradition. They're all toxic.

The Bible can be used to justify any point of view, including the terrible ones. This is a religion that used to support the ugliest kinds of slavery and racism, and used the Bible to back up their support. Up until 25 years ago, the South African Anglican Church was A-OK with apartheid, so this isn't a practice that died out long ago. It's still alive and well.

Yep @somerandomguy .Shame is an effective tool for controling and manipulate people. I moved into a eastern beliefs, thinking that they were free from shame, but they aren't...

I think shame is a universal feeling and it has its proper place. We should feel shame if we do wrong but we should not feel shame if we've been wronged. Mankind weapons shame and humiliation to control and subjugate others. They do this in religion and outside religion oftentimes to create an in group and an out group. It's a cult tactic to foster loyalty and because one of man's tendencies is to create groups.

I cannot disagree more strongly. Shame is never useful. I think you're confusing guilt with shame. We should, in fact, feel guilty if we do wrong, but we should not feel shame.

Guilt says, "I did a bad thing."
Shame says, "I am a bad person."
Obviously one can atone for doing a bad thing. One cannot atone for being a bad person. Religions - and Christianity in particular - WANT to make everyone feel like a bad person, because as @Chiqui said, a shamed person can be much more easily controlled.

Exactly. I do not want to feel and believe that I am wrong/bad/default just because I have been born. Come on!! That is sadistic and make the people their slave for their economical and power reasons.
And christians are experts on this matter.
(I don't like to see christians or non atheist on this thread. It upsets me deeply)
I have had already enough of them.

I agree wholeheartedly with you @Chiqui and @somerandomguy
I'm a Christian
this is a place for atheists to talk, not a place to debate with atheists
@HealingInProcess , this is the one thread in this whole forum where we have the space as atheists to discuss the negative impacts of religion on our lives and in general.

You have come here, identifying as a Christian. As @somerandomguy said, this is NOT the place for you to come and debate with us.

We are respectful of the theistic threads by abstaining from posting there, and we expect and deserve that same respect in return.

Funny enough, half of my direct family is muslim and the other half, christians.
I am planning my 50's birthday party with all ?
Any suggestions?

Whenever someone mentions religion, just smile, nod, and walk away.

How close are you to your direct family? You could probably engineer some really spectacular fighting :D

And happy birthday!!!!! ?

I would love to (lol), but, when I left the cult, I had to do a lot of work with them (parents-christians and sister(muslim), because I was a bit nasty with them due the the cultist beliefs. I told them the cult people were my family and they were nota anymore. So, now, I have regain their trust on me and I want to keep It :)
We don't talk about religión, and when they do, I keep quiet. Aldo understand It is not my duty to try to chance their beliefs.
Too much work ;)
I like the idea of a meal together, just the halal meat and no jamón near them Will be fine.
Birthday is on May, thanks anyway :)
I want to have all the details ready on advance.
(If my in laws would join us, then the fight will be a fact, for sure) they are very christians.
So two separated celebrations is safer :)
