When all your smart home lights keep randomly shutting off, leaving you sitting alone in the dark and you frantically try to get to the App in the phone to turn them back on. And while you manage to not completely freak out, you completely freeze, unable to get up and turn on some other non-smart lights. Only to frantically run around the house between two “shut-offs” to finally turn them on.

I cannot do total darkness at home. Can. Not.

When you keep yourself safe(r) your whole life by having to mind read; then be told it's a cognitive distortion to mind read, so try to not do it; then are left the rest of your life having to mind read out of default, due to others not being forthcoming, and therefore without which you cannot protect yourself. Because no one who does that cares or is safe, as you know by experience. And that reinforces what you believed all along, which is what necessitated the mind reading in the first place.

That was my line on movies my kid watched... if he’d lived it but wasn’t “old enough” to watch people make-believe?

Same for football, for that matter. My friends are all :eek: How could you let your kid play football??? Don’t you know how many injuries, blah blah blah. At least in football he has a helmet, and pads, and a whole damn team guarding his back, and a coach to encourage him, and rules that are followed, and a ref to enforce them. All things he doesn’t have at his dad’s. He’s a helluva lot safer playing football than going to his dad’s house. :shifty:
