News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

Even someone sneezing on a screen will have SOME of their sneeze particles stopped by the screen, right?
I think masks may introduce some complacency there.
The proper etiquette for sneezing is into your elbow. Because if done properly, there's no real way for anything to get *through*.

If folks are relying solely on a (standard) mask to stop sneezes, ehhhh, I don't know. This coronavirus is teeny tiny. If it happened to hit a fibre of the mask, then it'd probably stop. But a lot of that mask would seem like empty space to the virus, and sneezes have a shit-tonne of velocity behind them.

Sneezes, most forceful evacuation from the human body, are up to 80km/h.

Or at least, that was according to the last Trivial Pursuit edition that I had memorised:rolleyes:

ETA And it's duly noted - Google and Trivial Pursuit are in disagreement on the issue. Either way, they both agree sneezes are pretty durn forceful!

I was exposed to a seriously ill person 3 weeks ago. I tried to get tested after I got sick. I didn't tick some boxes and I was refereed to a State Health who said no as well. Got better. I am sick again with a sore throat. It's probably not it.

I got offered heaps of work (I wasn't mentally well enough to take it) but every day they rang 3-4 schools with 2500 z + students 300-400 teachers. So I probably got offered 14 - 21 days but look at the numbers. The lowest numbers 14 x 2500 = 0+ 14 x 300 = 4200. So that is 39200 folks I could have moved among. It's a low risk that I have it but being tested would have been f*cking useful because then I could like leave the property.

Politicians aren't reading the WHO website. Like they don't have to do work. They just have to spread the information professional, layperson, public, videos like it's all there.

Anyway I haven't left the property for 3 and a half weeks. I know so many elderly, folks with immune issues and walking down the street isn't something I am going to do. I am sick so I am annoyed.

I'm off the grid. It's about 24 hours. The main difference is the TV news maybe because if you flip news channels its like insult then injury. I know what's going on. I' m ust taking my usual lite dose.

Many years ago I realized what I thought was following along news events, entertainment, and current events was giving me and ulcer and making me a nervous wreck.

So I feel better. My daughters are home for 2 or three weeks. Therapy is cancelled and I'm trying to get my wife to pay a little attention to me, so things are different, but not that different. We had to explain to my daughter what's wrong. Neither understand, but one gets anxious. My wife drove her by her program, to show her it was closed.

I'll be ok whatever happens. Or I won't . I'm not going to watch TV. I'm not sick and I don't know anyone who is.

I think the thing with masks is, they privacy DO help some. But there aren't enough to go around. They are probably more effective at keeping germs in than keeping them out. (And I think there's some physics behind that. It's easier to stop a sneeze early, when it's less dispersed.)

Trimmed a pony yesterday for a lady who's married to a teacher. He said they have the school bus drivers lined up to deliver food to the kids who are one free and reduced lunch school. (Don't ask me how it happens that we have a significant number families in this country who can't afford to feed their own kids. That seems like a problem that should be solvable.)
Blame gives you some sense of control. Even if it's not over the actual event, if we have someone to blame it means there's something that can be supposedly be changed. "If only they wouldn't...." "If only they would...."
Exactly. And it rarely does much to fix the actual problem. Whether it's domestic abuse or a polio epidemic.

I've just signed up for online grocery shopping because I'm now not allowed to go to the shops and frankly who wants to go there anyway? So in 48 hours I will be able to buy stuff.

My cold is gathering a head of steam up on me. I've suspended my m/ship till further notice at the swimming pool. I cannot go visit anyone and nobody can come here. My library is closed.. oh the whole world is shutting down around me. The neighborhood is so quiet. Spooky really.

The thing is that I can go for several weeks without worrying about seeing or speaking to anyone except my t, psydoc or gp. And honestly, since I didn't care. Not. One. Bit. It was fine.

But now I've been told to self-isolate because I'm at high risk of being seriously damaged by covid19 - I WANNA GO OUT!! This is my very human nature trying to sabotage me.

My ptsd team are really upset bc it's taken them years to get me to go out very occasionally and now it's too risky.

I'm really anxious. It's just the beginning of a extremely long period of isolation for many of us I think. Perhaps another way of living.

@blackemerald1 Google books & Google scholar & Good Reads & Project Gutenberg and similar sites are awesome help for closed libraries issues :sneaky:

The wanna go out & can't... turn what you can into home activities ;) Home gym / mini dojo / at least oomph comfort bath if can't xactly swim there / botanic garden at porch or balcony or simply any corner with plants, extra doggo play time, clothes storage rearrange for space order or both can take weeks even with few clothes...

Stuff like that?
Homes can be adventure ;)

... I'm still yet to build a proper bunker. Just thankfully not that stressed at all. But bunkers are also a thing. All the camo everything I got in storage that I ignore all the other times as it pisses me off :hilarious:

& the whole Being Told stressor... I'm turning it around: Awesome... even other people agree I should have fun without them ;)

And with the deliveries? Better room service than many motels. Yay me, motels are home, I'm in the right place, don't *wanna* go anywhere, *that* home is safe.

And this is why I am adamant about masks providing some level of protection. How can they not? Even someone sneezing on a screen will have SOME of their sneeze particles stopped by the screen, right?

I work in a call center with two PC screens. If you use purell hand sanitizer wipes (provided by the company) which has the needed percentage of alcohol amount and is just like the hand sanitizer but in wipe form. Those screens gets wiped down top to bottom. Along with the rest of the monitor, keyboard, and mouse and the desk and the tower of the computer.

I am pretty sure those wipes you can buy and its not just for businesses but things like Lysol I think would do the same but not 100% sure on that.

On, also, if you put hand sanitizer on a rag of some sort, that would do it too. Probably would make it sticky but it would work.

I've just signed up for online grocery shopping because I'm now not allowed to go to the shops and frankly who wants to go there anyway?

Is it a online shop that's just for those that have to self quarentine? I ask because someone said that Amazon grocery is a few weeks behind. Was wondering what website/service and how fast they deliver (if open to the general public that is.) Just trying to find a good online source of food if I can't find what I need in person.

I can’t go for walks right now, too sick, but when I have been able to go for walks earlier in the week - it was a saving grace. I could see other humans from a distance out on the trails and parks. I could breathe. Get sunshine, and everyone stays far enough from each other. It helped my brain not feel so trapped and alone. Plus, others leave my service dog alone now. No more unwanted petting. People actually back up. Yes! Added bonus.
