News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

We have a lot of nurses and doctors getting it after working long hours treating people in hospital. It seems to be running rampant in the hospitals. There was a victim in our cancer ward in Melbourne, which then infected others. They died, others now fighting for survival due to no immune system from cancer treatment. Bad place for it to get loose.

We had some parties in apartments here... hence now we have zero visitor policy, not parties, na da, whilst all this is happening.

Oh... and we had hospital staff who are supposed to be in quarantine, who did the selfish human shit thing, and decided they needed to go out and get things, do stuff. WTF is wrong with people! Even our health staff are doing the wrong thing.

I think all countries need to round up everyone who is supposed to be in a quarantine, take them away to hotels and forcibly quarantine them.

People just can't be trusted to do the right thing, time and again.

I think that's complicated. So.. all medical professionals here have been exposed (literally every single one I've spoken to. Pre symptoms in the patient so without the PPE used for a + patient). We can't all go off cos people can start exhibiting symptoms after being on the ward a week, so every single staff member has been exposed at that point. N those situations happen in every ward.

Outside of work I don't go out. I order home delivery n click the no contact option. I've sent my kids to their biomums. I couldn't self distance more in my off time if I tried. But exposure to a Covid19+ patient doesn't allow us time off. That's part of the reason why we are discouraging any non urgent cases of anything to come in, all staff are potentially carrying it.

Obviously if a staff member shows symptoms they get their week off. But outside of that, every single staff member is exposed. If I'd met my family recently (dad tested positive n mum n bro have symptoms) id be off. But exposed at work is ? cos otherwise nobody would be working.

This is what it looks like when the do it right but they started their set up 16 years ago so all policies and procedures are in place.

I couldn't agree more with him. ( the video) When I was at my doc's office two days ago, the staff was taking temperatures before we could even see the reception area

Also.. I haven't had to deal with any ongoing policies in USA besides sales tax, but we don't do anything here.. 16 years in advance. Or, I should say, if we do...we pay for those things out of our taxes but we don't know what government spends them on. Obviously, Covid-19 was not one of them. Taiwan wins. But here, it has to happen first before USA does anything in advance is my experience of 56 years of living here.

Or uh... the police themselves may be falling ill, and we may see the military pull in, and they won't be really equipped to handle it all... Link Removed
yep. take out the first responders... 911/police/fire/med staff and there is no control of anything. Most irritating? People are still tying up the lines with stupid crap and demanding officers to do things like put their kids to bed. (yes - a VERY common call :( ) As for the DVs - I think this is just going to make people aware of the problems we already have. People are always either reluctant to call or they are mutual combat -- both halves hitting on each other and each is just as guilty. There have never been enough shelter beds to go around, so the victims often have nowhere to go but the streets if they decide to leave. We have many, many dv victims and their kids couch surfing or living in their cars. Maybe, in my perfect world, this crisis will help people see how broken our system was going in -- and they will be willing to do what is necessary to fix it. Hey - a girl can hope! :)

Yep

It's sad because we were ahead of the curve. There was an entire department just to deal with pandemics. Then it was closed down. Because: politics. We have extremely strong emergency management departments in most of the individual states but they don't get the funding they need. Because: politics. Our hospital system was barely hanging on - but no one wanted to invest the money to fix it. Because: politics.

It is just so very disheartening. This pandemic was a chance for us to shine -- but instead we are showing the rust under a cheap sheen. :(

This may make a vaccine more of a challenge: Coronavirus: How scientists are tracking 8 strains of SARS-CoV-2 virus

Sometimes the shock of the situation hits me all over again. 8 strains basically means we are in for a long haul situation.
Good stuff! I have to wonder with all ice caps melting too. ( animal such as a fish, perhaps) what elements are in those things. Some of the ice caps have been there, forever. Are we breathing what killed a colony of 1400 people back in 1500 A.D.?
