Hero’s - is the term being overused?

Medals don't equal heroes either.

damn straight.

It sure doesn't make you a hero to have a medal anymore than the wizard of oz giving one to the cowardly lion. But it did make him roar a little louder and that's been my real-life experience, too.

Heroes don't have to roar to get medals. They just have to put others at an equal value as themselves and then get stuck in a situation where they have a chance to prove it, and do.

Shit, panicking I killed the thread now :roflmao:
I recently heard an NPR segment on the award, one of the takeaways was that it isn't hard to find candidates, the difficulty is in sorting and picking the winners. There are a lot of people that will do what is necessary to save life, more than I had imagined.

Yeah it’s the same with the GC and VC - if there’s a squad or several people who were all part of the same thing then a ballot is done.

Ha, made me laugh. Because, damn, I know some people like this. Not just the military either. Give some people a basic training level for something and they want to stick it as an award all over their emails :roflmao:

The ones who wrap medals up in fabric and hide them away in a tin at the back of a forgotten draw, they are the ones who I think of. There’s that famous quote from Corinthians about love where it says “love does not boast” (agape love which is all about selflessness and devotion to others).

Nothing heroic about saying how heroic you are.

Whoops! Somehow pasted that from something else I was going to write on and didn’t realise it had come across.
My bad.
Apologies!

I dislike it when a not-so-nice person is called a hero. And I also hate it when sports stars are called heroes.

To me, a hero is someone who risks his or her life to save others, not somebody who is merely a great athlete who catches a lot of touchdown passes in the NFL or scores a lot of points in NBA basketball.
