@Ronin I was talking to mods and expressing an opinion about the repeated bleed through on this topic since US politics was closed. Don't police me Ronin. I hit up Friday and Joey... surely they'll handle it. Don't worry... looks as though the trajectory will carry.

I am so scared of the spikes of Covid19 that are going to come in 2-3 weeks in America. I really fearful that the medical system will be overwhelmed.

I really see it as a serious issue is that everyone really, really, really needs (protestors and attending police) to be wearing masks, scarves and eye protection so as not to spread SARS-CoV-2. I get that with all the pain that it's not even a consideration, surely folks could walk around and give everyone, that doesn't have a mask, a mask, if all the protestors and police wore masks it would help stop the spread. I just feel for the pain everyone is feeling right now. I really wish that there was something that I could do.

Social distancing is SO important! I know you all already know that. It shows a terrible desperation when folks are willing to put their lives on the line re Covid19 when they come from communities already disproportionately who have suffered from and died from Covid19.

I want to yell out "Please keep everyone safe! Please wear masks or at least scarves. Wear glasses! Please look after us all! If you all die of Covid19 what of the future? We need everyone to manage this pandemic! We need everyone!"

Trump needs to wear a mask as well. He has to protect himself and make sure all around him wear masks. If he gets sick it will make a bad situation worse. If he wore a mask everyone would wear masks. Masks are seen as crucial in Asian countries.

I cannot even begin to imagine how many people who were continuing to keep safe at home, to keep calm and carry on, are now going to view this threatened assault by our leadership as something worth risking their lives over, to take to the streets.
That's where we went with this as we watch in real time in Australia. Nothing left to lose.

The issues of the ways in which race plays out when combined with Covid19 is reverberating around the world. This is an interesting article for me.

"Germany has over 150,000 confirmed cases and over 5,500 deaths. Vietnam — a country with a similar population, far less wealth, and a land border with China — has 268 cases and 0 deaths. Not a few deaths, ZERO. That’s what success in fighting coronavirus looks like, and it’s not Germany. Vietnam, however, is not white people, therefore they don’t count. Did you know Angel Merkel was a scientist?"

How Germany Is A COVID Failure

I was talking to an Indigenous Elder yesterday for a couple of hours. I am trying to get some masks to her and inspire her to wear them because if she does so will everyone else.

Right now as I type this a Butcher Bird has flown into the computer room and is watching me type. I would take a photo but I don't want to scare it. Hilarious bird! Flew in yesterday as well. And it's flying and jumping from item to item.

Be safe folks and remember self compassion. Self Compassion Breaks can be most useful. Self-Compassion It's my go to to managing Covid19 anxiety and stress.

Link Removed

I read that linked article back when you posted that other one about Mongolia, from the same author. I had considered posting it but then decided against it to not be inflammatory. And because I just didn't have the headspace to actually formulate my criticism in a proper and civil way and engage in any possible discussion. However, since you posted it...

There's a LOT that's really really problematic with that article.

For example the claim of a media bias - which simply isn't true. It is however, when you're already approaching it being biased. There's been a LOT of praise and mentions of many Eastern nations' success from day one.

Another point that's being completely ignored is the very obvious difference in political systems: Vietnam is basically a 'China light'.

Not everything has something to do with a racial bias as the article claims.

As I mentioned before, I'm really wary of medium.com... not every opinion piece is actually a good or helpful opinion piece. Not if it's a little too willfully one-sided in an a little too obvious attempt to fit a specific agenda.

You are correct - the political actions being taken around the Floyd protests/riots don't belong in the COVID thread. (In future, better to use report than to tag, it'll get seen sooner)

is there a place where we can safely discuss the overlap?
No. The George Floyd protests are their own topic, better served in a separate thread.

Discuss them here: Events rising from the George Floyd protests and riots, US and beyond.

As Anthony said - back to COVID.

Thanks, all.

I have been laid off from work since March 24th and yesterday was my first day back. They have made a few changes. We have 3 different start times to thin our large group of employees while coming into the building. We now have 2 different lunch times. We can't order food deliveries. We can't leave the premises. We have to social distance. They check our temperature in the morning and give us our masks and gloves. We have to clean/sanitize our work stations in the a.m. and throughout the day.

Our Govenor has been slowly easing up the restrictions. Last weekend (a holiday weekend) she opened up Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. J and I took the opportunity to head north to the great outdoors. It was sad because it was a holiday weekend and typically hotels and campgrounds are so busy. We were able to get spectacular waterfront accommodations when normally we would have had to have reservations months in advance. Many businesses are struggling and some have closed their doors forever.

As of yesterday she (our govenor) opened up the rest of the State. Restaurants can have 30% capacity. (I think it was 30, may be 50%) Everything is open except gyms and salons. (I need a haircut so bad. J bought an electric razor to do his hair. Lucky! ?) We can have events up to 100 people.

There is and will be many lawsuits against my local government. For all kinds of reasons.

Thankfully my family and friends are all coping ok (J is having a hell of a time though ?) and healthy. I hope you are too!

Why don't you think you can get a booking at the same time as your husband? If you can make your bookings far enough ahead you I cannot see why that won't work

You can’t make them earlier than 48h in advance and a recent update post on social media says there have been high volumes of calls and people actually having difficulty even getting through.
