& my apologies... these 2 things are so inextricably linked in my mind, that I didn’t link them in the post.

People are scared.

If not of the virus itself, of losing their homes/livelihoods/ability to feed their kids/to live any kind of normal life. And many, too, are grieving. Lost loved ones, lost lives, lost opportunists, lost plans.

Afraid, and cooped up, hurting, stressed out. With nowhere/or very few ways & means to blow off that stress, or actions to take to combat those fears, going more than a bit stir crazy. Or afraid and overworked, exhausted, double shifts, no PTO, grateful to pay their rent but at what cost to themselves? Or all of the above, and kicked in the gut with grief.

So in the MIDST of all this? When every other leader in the country in urging calm... what does our president do? Kick the damn hornets nest. Threaten the American people with their own military. Threaten the governors of every state. And INCITE violence.

I cannot even begin to imagine how many people who were continuing to keep safe at home, to keep calm and carry on, are now going to view this threatened assault by our leadership as something worth risking their lives over, to take to the streets.

It’s going to get bad, here.

Unless something happens, very very quickly.

My sky, which has been quiet for months, is full of helicopters.

"We're going to clamp down very, very strong," Trump said. "The word is 'dominate.' If you don't dominate your city and your state, they're gonna walk away with you. And we're doing it in Washington, in DC, we're going to do something that people haven't seen before ... But we're going to have total domination."

In the Rose Garden, as loud bangs were heard and demonstrators ran screaming, Trump said he was taking "swift and decisive action" to protect Washington by dispatching "thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel, and law enforcement officers to stop the rioting, looting, vandalism, assaults, and the wanton destruction of property."

He also said that he had "strongly recommended to every governor to deploy the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets." If cities or states fail to act, Trump said, "then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them." Pentagon officials express concern as Trump threatens to use military to 'dominate' protestors - CNNPolitics

I see it as just exactly that. Fired off emails to all my federal representatives immediately after the news conference. Including a LONG one to my representative because he belongs to the same party as the president and I think it's their responsibility to rein him in. One of the things about a big challenge, like a pandemic, is it can be used as an excuse to cease control "for the good of the people" to "keep people safe" etc. Sometimes, "safety" is over rated.

that we dominate the streets."

The only thing he knows.

People are scared. People are hungry. People are homeless. No, riots are not the answer and many bad people, criminals and gang members, are running loose in the city but we had only peaceful protests for a while now. Though I didn't like it as they were gathering in large crowds, inches from each other's faces, and no masks, they were all still peaceful protests. Begging to be allowed to work, which means to be allowed to eat, be allowed a roof over their head and to not end up homeless. Cause though there maybe rent and morgage forgiveness or whatever its called, it still adds up and it will be owed in full after said timeframe and who can pay 2, 3, or 4 months of rent/house payment all at once? And there is nothing saying they cannot be evicted or foreclosed on immediately once that timeframe is over and they likely cannot pay that entire lump sum. Many small business owners went bankrupt. Hell, many large businesses went bankrupt. Hertz. A large car renting company. Gone. No longer in business. Most of the world's top businsses are closing hundreds of stores nationwide. That is a job loss for likely thousands more if not millons more! People are desperate to be heard. No one listened to peaceful protests so that added with anger and rage. I can see easily how that can turn to riots. Mixed in there with criminals and gang members but I think most of those people are just desperate to be heard. f*cking listen to them America. America is literally burning down for godsake! Dominating is the opposite of listening!

TBH, that's why Americans elected him. People saw his predecessor as a wimp, too ready to compromise, and for 50% of Americans compromise is NOT the American way. We didn't compromise with the British during the Revolutionary War, so we shouldn't and can't compromise with anyone now - especially our own fellow citizens.

Yep. I think there is also the sense among many that, if the protesters can justify going out on the streets, right on top of each other, many without masks, why shouldn't I go to the beach or parties at the park?

Things are going to get bad in many, many ways very soon.

that's why Americans elected him.

If we went by popular vote, he would not be in office because the majority of Americans did not vote for him.

Oh, I'm itching real bad... but ain't gonna bite and feed in the bull shit.

Faucci says POTUS isn't discussing much with him anymore... gee whiz wonder why. He flopped around more than a catfish on a riverbank.

@joeylittle - hey clean up on Aisle 4 please unless or until you unlock the US politics thread?
