News Worldwide impact of the novel coronavirus (covid-19)

I think the leadership in my state is good, slow reopening, going back a phase when needed.

This is what I dont see Florida doing. Yes, he said we will reopen slowly but when the numbers are skyrocketing, we aren't going backwards in reopening and are continuing to move forward. I think we are in phase 3 now though not 100% as I haven't turned on the news in a while but some weeks ago they said we would be moving into phase 3 in a week or two even though at the time and still have higher numbers then when we started. I think for DeSantis, the Economy is more important then human lives. Just my own opinion.

Honestly I think Australia should go hell for leather to eliminate this plague. We've got it out of several States and with a bit more resolve we could do it for the rest.

This stop then start then stop every time there's a spike in numbers is ridiculous and it's impossible for businesses and to plan stuff.

People say it's impossible. Yes it is if we continue to import the infection into the country. But there are really good examples of how it can be eliminated. New Zealand is a prime example with a similar population to Australia and there are other countries too.

Historically, there have been other plagues not just the Spanish flu. Polio, Tuberculosis were eliminated in Australia by the population adhering to policies that promoted eradication.

We've stopped international flights coming in anyway and probably by now the government's are beginning to appreciate what an epic rorte the repatriating of Australians four months after we closed down borders really is?! :cautious: I mean some States have declared that anyone returning from here on in must pay for their own accommodation. A good thing too. It was a good scheme initially until it started being abused.

Agree with @DharmaGirl . The second wave (there's never been a pandemic without one), might very well be people so frustrated and devastated in so many ways they simply go in to denial during the 1st one and no longer keep doing what they ideally should keep doing.

I swear that the protests (right as they were and are for support and demands for true equality and justice) had a component of ~now we can get together, and usually no masks. Someone interviewed said that, that 'they had isolated but just knew they had to show up together for this', but no distancing or masks, because people need practice wearing them, and another said it was too important to maintain social distancing or use masks, rather to die of covid would be worth it. But ideally, protesting and eradicating it would be even better, especially if they could survive and continue to advocate for long overdue change. People don't do well in isolation, but denial isn't so hot either. It's not the flu as we know it. It has a potential inflammatory response that's causing endless troubles. If it came through here earlier than they thought originally, it was vicious and not 'normal'. People hopefully will dig in and keep working together. JMHO.

As of today, many stores just implemented wearing the masks. Our governor ordered it before but it was not enforced. I went to grocery store tonight and all had masks on. There are so so many that have just refused to wear the masks. Numbers are climbing fast. Some positive are reporting vacationing, social gatherings, but others report none of that. I wonder if that is why they are suspecting it is in air conditioning in stores and such so its looking more contagious than once believed. I just wonder if there is not some amount of fibbing going on as well. Since we have no leadership here in US and so many still think its a hoax, if you socialized and tested positive-might deny taking the risks. Idk, but it sure is wearing on people. I have had to step back from watching so much too.

Went to Walgreens last night for meds and some basics and it says, on a very large sign on the front door that masks were required but I saw 8 people without a mask on. One at the check out (meaning he went through the entire store and went to the check out without a mask). So they certainly aren't enforcing that at all still. I don't know the laws but can't businesses enforce their own policy and kick people out that don't have masks since masks required is on the front door?

^If it's a law then sure call the police? But can the store staff risk trying to hold somebody while they wait? Have the police been defunded to the point where there are none to respond? Is it legal to hold somebody for that type of offence there? idk... it's a rabbit hole. The screaming about rights and freedoms and the picketers and law suits...:wtf: nah just let him buy his stuff and go :)

If it's store policy - same deal but without the police. Risk losing a customer or him/her going ballistic and screaming about rights and freedoms & more law suits etc.. causing a lot of grief for the store - yet again.

Civil obedience requires the consent and co-operation of the civilians.

Everyone's going crazy making masks, sewing them, drawing them, colouring and crafting them. It's a new business for some businesses that were facing extinction.

A throw-away mask costs me $2.50 (US $1.77) atm.. but that's me getting indignant and refusing to pay $5.00.

So, I too and dragging out my sewing machine. :wtf: and researching the various patterns and ideas. I've been relying on a neck scarf for outdoor activities but after an extended inside consultation with somebody today it's not feasible to use throw-aways.
