I am a survivor of childhood abuse and then later adult sexual assault, and attempted murder. I have worked very hard to overcome my trauma and PTSD. I am working on my PhD in Trauma and Greif Psychology to help other women. I am doing some research for my dissertation and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share with me the 3 or 4 biggest things they are struggling with after experiencing childhood trauma and /or that repeated in adulthood in some way. I will keep everything anonymous, I am early in my research stage and I want to be sure that I am working in the areas that are most needed.

Are their any areas of your life you constantly struggle:
Like your health, unexplained chronic pain, weight issues, etc,
Money issues, can't seem to get ahead, or having trouble with career advancement,
Relationship issues, unhappiness- feel misunderstood by your partner, sexual issues, lack of desire ....
General Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, a sense of disconnectedness, or that you feel like you are losing it, or can't concentrate.

These are issues that I struggled with in varying degrees, and I understand trauma can look and feel different for everyone. I want to dedicate my research to helping women in areas where they feel they aren't getting enough help. If you could share some of the biggest issues you are facing, some examples of how they show up in your life, that would help me help others.

I know this forum is for support for each other and I am not looking to exploit anyone's pain. I have suffered with many things and it was hard for me to find a supportive community, so I understand the value of this community- I want to be part of the right solution. Thanks! :)

@RebeccaReal - there is an actual section for studies. This might fit better there. And if you plan to use this information for research, you should put an actual study together. As you can see from above, because you didn't provide any details about who is specifically excluded from your research, you've already got a man asking why he's not included.

PhD candidates should really be going about collecting data the correct way, which this is not, if they're going to come into our community and ask these kinds of questions.

Hi @RebeccaReal, if you want to be part of the right solution, shouldn't that also include helping men?
I agree that men may also need help, however being a women I know that I can relate and empathize better with what women experience, and I am perhaps am not equipped to empathize with the specifics of men's suffering. I am in no way discounting that men who have experienced abuse or trauma face unique and difficult challenges in overcoming this, however I do know my limitations within my own experience. I am studying gender neutral solutions in my classes, however in my targeted research I have chosen to explore what I am more familiar with.

I will repost in studies, my apologies, i a new here. However this is not for a study- this is a preliminary survey for my own clarification- to help me decide where I should be concentrating my efforts as I choose my research topics. As for research studies, when I conduct an actually study I will gain my information from a bank of "selected individuals' that meet criteria. It already appears I have ruffed some feathers inadvertently. This was not my intention. Just looking for some guidance from my peers.

Yes, you're pretty new and I would not say you've worked up the goodwill necessary to post questions about people's abuse experiences. Why should we share these very personal things with you? Do you just not feel like reading the rest of the board?

Also, I feel like if you're going to exclude men from this thread, which is not really a good idea anyway, you should put it right into the thread title so I and other men won't waste our time.

Also, this is the Social section. Questions about abuse aren't Social.

My apologies I misunderstood. I have already tried to figure out how to delete this post, but I can't. I put myself out there thinking i had found a welcoming community. It was my mistake not realizing that I was an outsider that hadn't paid my dues. I am not sure if deleting my profile will delete this post- sorry not very tech savvy- but it's clear that I am not in the right place. I wish the best of luck to everyone. :)

@RebeccaReal I am not a specialist but I think that putting this thread in the study area and specifying that it is directed at women in the title is a totally appropriate thing to do even if it is preliminary work. I also think that this is a supportive community, but there are times when posts aggravate the trauma and bad experiences of other members and they'd just as soon have not read said posts. This is why it is important that posts are presented in the right context with specific titles in the right forum.

I have had a number of my posts moved to different areas by moderators because I didn't think all the details through well. You might want to hit the contact button and reach out to a moderator to relocate this to a better area (or maybe delete it and start over), if you haven't already.

Best of luck with your work.

Putting on my Moderator Hat for a minute.
@somerandomguy Instead of telling members what they should write about, where they should post it, & what so called dues they have to pay before they do any or all of that... if you have a problem with a post; either in content or location... you’ve been here long enough to know to hit report and let Staff handle that, rather than taking it upon yourself to dish out bad info. Which is exactly what you’ve done. Threadbanned.

@RebeccaReal Staff move threads to forums they’re better suited in, all the time, and it’s of no worry or concern. Social, in particular, is the forum most new members miss-post in when wanting to connect with other members on group-style issues / comparing and contrasting notes. Someone shoots us a report, if we don’t see it first, and no fuss no muss, we move it. I apologize that this usual process was hijacked and used instead to chew you out. It was completely undeserved.

Hopefully, now, we can all return to the OP... and as always, if anyone wishes to discuss this post further? Please use Contact Us to get in touch with Staff directly, rather than replying to this post.

I'd recommend you do some searching and reading around the forum - you're likely to see some different kinds of patterns.
