No new cases in my town overnight. Yay! I have changed my thinking on this (again) and I'm going with - I hope everyone will stay safe. I don't know what these people have been through to so distrust the government. My thought on that is that if the government wants to watch what I'm doing, go ahead. It's pretty boring. I don't think think the government has the resources to worry about what's happening out here in BFE, and I doubt very much that they will stop anyone from prepping. That's the new rumor, the government doesn't want people to prep because Walmart locks up their flashlights. What a leap, huh?

I have a large stock of water and canned goods, and 2 solar powered batteries that would run the pump if need be. I'm going to get a generator since my mom wants one. I'd prefer to spend the money on solar, since the sun won't run out anytime soon and we sure get enough of it out here.

I have 6 months or food and household goods, including at least 3 yrs of toilet paper and sanitizing goods such as hand sanitizer, bleach, pool shock to make bleach (which I tested and it works amazingly, which gives me many more years of bleach), soap, toothpaste, spare tooth brushes and other goods, and 6 cases of water and then another 6 of tap water all circulated (along with circulating food storage) all in a spare bedroom closet. I got this just by buying a little extra at the store each time I went. Psh on the government not allowing this. You can buy it online too. Which some of this was bought online. Oh, and tech. Batteries, flashlights, solar panel stuff, battery banks, etc

Smart! I'm going out today so I will pick up some more stuff.

We have a "Constitutional" sheriff that has threatened to arrest any person or business who enforces a mask rule. I could post some news articles but I would then let everyone know where I live. He has gone on and on about the fake virus among other things. So, guess who's in the hospital with Covid!

One community case in Auckland (our first community transmission in nearly 6 months) and bam: the whole of NZ just got Oprah Winfrey-ed.

You get a lockdown... you get a lockdown... everyone gets a lockdown!!!

Basically let's just not end up like our neighbours across the ditch, please.

Wow! North and south islands both? Hardcore. Still, the "all in it together" approach seems to be more effective than different rules depending on geography. Delta doesn't seem to care much about geography.

The good news is that 3 days hard and fast? Can work. With good contact tracing and mass testing. So fingers crossed for you that's all it takes. Our latest one got stretched out to a week (2? You lose count), but we got it. And we're back at work and using public playgrounds and congregating in shopping centres and bars (not necessarily in that order). So, it can be done.

Yep! Auckland and Coromandel for 7 days, rest of NZ for 3 days, for now.

For sure. I'm all in favour of this approach.

As our PM put it, we're one of the last countries in the world to have delta in the community, so we've had plenty of time to watch others and see what works and what doesn't.

The thing is, we currently don't know the link to this case. There is currently no identifiable link to the border. Which means that there are likely other cases out there, especially given that this person's infectious period has been determined to have begun August 12, they've visited a number of places (though apparently scanned QR codes frequently and sought medical advice/testing promptly after developing symptoms - so that's awesome), and given that this is most likely the delta variant (though we won't find that out till tomorrow 1pm briefing, we're treating it as though it is).

Give me a lockdown over an outbreak, any day.

Hubby and I were talking about how fast this went thru my whole family....and how scary that is. Dad had it day one, I tested negative day 5, showed symptoms day 7, sis tested positive day 9, hubby and I tested positive day 11. So even though all of us were vaccinated we still had 4 cases in 2 weeks.
Don't get me wrong, the vaccine worked. Sis is still sick but nothing like she would have been without it and all the rest of us have recovered. But still

4 cases in one family in less than two weeks. Scary 😖
