Listening to these old songs kind of hurts, activates these feelings of the painful longing for things to get better, the longing for a rescuer. But also good for reflecting how strong and capable I am for myself now, how I can lift up that child and bring her into my lap. Or just hold her in my heart. That brings tears to my eyes to think about while listening to these songs. I was so small and needy. And sometimes that part is still here, in all her vulnerability, but she’s not alone anymore.
