Oh yer... I will have to read chapter 5 later today it is morning of the 01st here, so ready for discussion tonight my time... whoo hoo.

Chapter five is full on once again. I still am amazed at how intricate the story and details are in this book.

I will wait for others before I comment more on this chapter.:)

Tigers have a special connection for me and are one of the reasons I chose this book. I have two tigers that entered my life just over a year ago and I just got back from visiting them at their sanctuary in Florida.
Regarding the deathless man, he made me uncomfortable every time he came up. I also noticed how much of the villagers decisions depend upon what the rest of the village may think etc. Though some of that had to do with survival, some of it did not.

After reading the deathless man, I am not going to just rule out that there is some supernatural occurrences within this book..

Death is greatly interested in this 'deathless man'. Maybe someone is taking my name in vain. I am with you, I am following.

Keep following Death and while your at it, why not pick up this book and read along with us, ...you're related. And, I couldn't not think about you while reading.

I'm looking forward to getting back to reading more.

I am finding this book a little daunting, needs a lot of concentration as the story moves back and forth.

Vaccinating the kids at the orphanage was drawn out with the distributing of the lollies before hand and then problems when they ran out of sweets.

The digging up of the dead man in the vineyard became entwined between religion and superstition.

Natalia rushes off to find out what happened to her grandfather and collect his possessions, ends up in some unheard of village with once again people with massive trust issues and realising that her grandfather was in search of the deathless man.

It seems to have gone quiet in the Book Club. What's happening, hope people haven't lost interest?

Not at all, Still reading. I get confused as to which chapter we are discussing when as I don't want to spoil the plot.

It is interesting how all of the bits seem to be coming together. How Natalia, was able to go and collect her grandfathers belongings. She is however no closer to finding out how he died. My guess it has a lot to do with the 'deathless man'.

We are also learning more about Luka, the butcher and how he came to be married to 'the tigers wife'. I am looking forward to reading more about that. I liked that such an obnoxious man, had such a love of music that he left home to follow his dream.

Then the 'deathless' man appearing at the holy shrine and reminding grandfather of the wager made at the first encounter. Telling his story of his father was Sleep and the uncle was indeed Death. That to be deathless was his punishment for falling in love and saving someone who should have died.

I do need to concentrate a lot on the story, but as the bits are coming together is is easier, and I'm enjoying the story now.

KP, you explained it so well. I got lost in chapter five and became confused. The amount of concentration needed to stay with the plot is enormous, however the story is magnificient and very well written.

The flip side of my life has been good, as I have travelled a lot. When reading chapter four and five it brings back memories of when I was in 'Yugaslavia' in the eighties, driving through the mountains from Austria down into Croatia stopping at Zagreb, onto Zadar into Bosnia and then Split. It took a full day to drive 600km as the road were so steep and narrow. Many times we had to slow down for horse and carts being driven by peasants. Others we saw just working the fields cutting hay with sickles. A lots of the dwellings were only huts with no windows. Even then the poverty was obvious. We used to take kilo's of coffee with us from Holland as it was expensive there.

I'm going to sit this one out. I was away and didn't have a chance to get it and then got into the Hunger Games trilogy when I got home and can not put them down!!
