The Tigers Wife: A Novel

I can understand why the book got its notoriety, though it wasn't the easiest read... yet I must acknowledge, I actually did like the overall story and method it was written. I really am just getting into this entire novel reading, and I am finding it so relaxing and enjoyable already.

I read the 10 questions at the back of the book, specific for book club discussion... I think tomorrow I am going to write them in here and give my answers to them, as they're really good questions about the type of book this is.

I haven't peaked to the back of the book, but that sounds like a good idea.

Still only half way through, but hoping to get more read this afternoon, while out doing my volunteer work.

If the phones dont ring and nothing needs doing in the office, I can read, or use the spare computer.

I am such a wimp.

I got through the tiger attack in the introduction and got so upset I couldn't pick it up for days.

Got triggered again when she was standing in the stupid flooded restroom talking on the phone. (You don't even want to know....)

I'm so disappointed- I was looking forward to joining in the book club, but I think I may have to wait until you guys start reading Dr. Seuss.

:(

I've caught up! Not the sort of thing I usually read... and the Eastern European setting is taking some getting used to. I grew up in the States and the Middle East - so the culture seems really really different to me.... No comment on specific content til I get through...

Nice to be reading with others!

and the Eastern European setting is taking some getting used to.
Being Australian myself, also found the same thing... but I really love learning about other cultures, so I just thought about the difficulty I was having, then started googling some aspects to understand sayings and such better... helped me with the rest of the book and thoroughly enjoyed it as a result.

I really like doing things outside my comfort zone, as experience has taught me, often I find more good than bad things when I do this and it only broadens my knowledge and view further.

I find it really quite interesting the cultural contexts, Yugoslavian and Romanian aspects encompassed in the book... again, all of which I had to lookup to find out and understand specific sayings, even though the book uses fictional locations the writing behind the book has a profound understanding of those locations to some degree, especially as the writer is so young.

I find most fiction has some underlying truth to it somewhere in order for it to come to life to begin with.

Anthony you are brilliant! And even more of a geek than me:geek:! Looking stuff up, Imagine? I am so used to reading Sci Fi (which, ok, some of the "background" you can look up but I generally read from the beginning, so I already know what there is....) HA I have to go a-googling.....

Don't have time to comment further at the moment, will try and continue when I get to Birmingham tomorrow evening. There is more in-depth information given regarding some of the characters living in or visiting the village where Natalia's grandfather grew up. Which helps us understand the story even more.

Am nearing the end. Curiouser and curiouser. And darker and darker. There is something so odd about the aesthetic of this book, don't know how to describe it exactly. And something... off about the people in it. Will finish.... but maybe not today.
