Book Club Chit Chat Thread

Are you all what they refer to as "parallel readers" in German (meaning you read more than one book at the same time, reading some of book A, then some of book B the same afternoon, then the beginning of book C, then A again...) or do you read one book from beginning to end and then start a new one?

I hope to get the proceeds from the house soon. Then a credit card. Then a kindle. Hopefully not only next year.

I am a 'parallel reader' although I have never heard that term. I tend to have a book upstairs and one on my kindle downstairs and out and about with me. Then I will read the book of the month around them both.

I'm reading 'The Hunger Games' at the moment but I was also reading 'War Horse' and I'm re-reading Spike Milligan's 'Hitler, My Part in His Downfall' which is part of his war memoirs and is very funny.

I, too, read more books at the same time. I probably won't be able to decide which one I want to read when I have access to 1,500 on the kindle. :banghead: :D

I normally read one book, start to finish. I take that book with me if I can see time out somewhere that I can sit down and read. Well... that is normal fiction type books.

Sometimes if I have a psychology type text, then obviously I may have that going as well, though that is different than enjoying a book in my view.

I can only read one book at a time, and sometime I'm lucky to be able to focus well enough to accomplish that.

When I first joined the forum, my symptoms were so bad, that despite my history as a mad book worm who chewed through books, I had no interest.
I started work a few weeks ago, and I've started reading again, and really starting to enjoy life, so here I am.

For those of you looking for super cheap books, I highly recommend BookDepository.co.uk, free postage worldwide, and extremely competitive pricing.
I would also recommend purchasing a Sony eReader, as ebooks tend to be cheaper, and you'll never run out of something to read.

You can always read it on your computer or smartphone, but the whole point of an eReader is that it doesn't strain your eyes because of the eInk technology.

I am an avid fan of Authors such as Clive Cussler, James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Raymond E Feist, Jeffery Deaver and many many more, and I have all the books released from these authors.

I would actually recommend reading a few of Gerald Durrell's books, they are old, but will have you rolling on the floor with laughter, his books were the inspiration for the TV series - My Family and Other Animals.

Hi Anthony, It's probably a good thing that my interest and focus didn't return until I went back to work, being a speed reader bookworm is an expensive 'monkey on the shoulder' to feed!!!!

Although PTSD has really slowed down the speedreading, I've found that I will blank out completely if I speed up, so I force myself to slow down.

Would also highly, very highly recommend the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, they are amazing.
Has anyone checked out The Happiest Refugee by Ahn Do?

I figure the cost is minimal compared to things I could be doing otherwise. Much cheaper than DVD's and movies... I figure it at a cost per hour basis. :D = Value for money. :coffee:

At the moment, I have 11 books here in my pile, another few on the way, another 110+ on my list for next reading, and always adding to that as I find more good authors, etc etc. This is one reason why I'm looking forward to my Kindle when it arrives in a couple of months, as I've got a whole lot of new authors ebooks I want to read... those that only release as such, trying to get their foot in the door... and they're cheap, usually around $5 a book: [DLMURL]http://www.thebigthrill.org/the-big-thrill/current-issue/[/DLMURL]

Free postage worldwide? Wow! Thanks very much. I have tons of books on my want-to-read booklist so may well try to see if some are on sale there.

Gerald Durrell - My Family and Other Animals.

Sounds like a book for me!

I am an avid reader of Mo Hayder's books and Chris Mooney to some extent, although the Darby series has been getting quite irrealistic with regard to plot.

It's those books that attract me for some reason (e.g. House of Leaves because of the creativity with regard to format, style, wording, etc.), I then buy, they sit on my bookshelf a year or many and then, all of a sudden, it's time to read them and it turns out they're a true gem.

I'd like to make a list of the best ten books and post here. But I'm at work.
