Halloween!

I remember one halloween, I was 10 months pregnant with my first child. We had just moved to a six unit townhouse like building. My husband had to work. I had a huge, huge bowl of candy and I was so excited to get a trick or treater. I had my light on, I watched out the window and every trick or treater crossed the street away from us once they got to the building. I thought of sitting outside, but it was absolutely freezing. I also thought of running after them, but I didn't think it would look good having a pregnant lady running after the kids asking if they wanted candy.

We've lived in a rural area for the last 13 years. No trick or treaters here. :(

Happy Halloween!

Hey, Brit, I think you and I must be alike! Every year (save for this one) I work my arse off to make my porch more enticing. I sit out there in the chill just waiting. I see some go to the houses across the street and I get up and yell out "Trick or Treat!" Just to get them to see I've got goodies.

I should dress up as a car salesperson next time with a placard and a bullhorn!

Ok not to sound daft or anything, but I'm so puzzled why other ptsd'ers love this holiday. I mean I live my life in a state of anxiety that spikes into terror. Halloween celebrates scaring the sh!t out of people. I'm glad it's over. That and I'm happy that Target started their Christmas ads a few weeks ago, even if their Christmas department is scarce until Halloween is clearanced out!

And of course THE GREAT PUMPKIN! On a pumpkin! lol

My halloween was so much fun! I painted myself entirely green, gave myself some scales, and that party I went to? Had more photos taken of me than I thought lol I didn't win best costume but that's alright the guy who made himself into a TRANSFORMER TOTALLY deserved it :D

This was probably the best weekend I've had in a long time.

The reason why I love this holiday so much is because for some reason if I dress up my anxiety goes down. I love all things sci fi, so dressing up as the creature Medusa this year was really fun for me. And usually when I go out I don't like idle chit chat with others. I especially have a terrible anxiety being touched by others. Or even having them hover nearby me.

But on Halloween? People like to ask you about that stellar costume (a safe and pleasnt conversation for me) and unlike going out to a bar or party on a regular old day when someone is bound to touch you at some point, people actually ASK to come near me to take a photo. They ASK to be in my space. And that really makes me feel good. That I can interact with minimal anxiety because I feel safe. I felt normal that I could be in the fanfare.

That's why I enjoy it so much.

That and I have amazing memories trick or treating as a kid before all of this PTSD nonesense. I went to areas where it was houses as far as the eye could see. The people in these areas were so into it. They made their garages into their very own haunted houses. Strobe lights, fog machines, webbing, family's dressed up, and the whole sha bang! They had jack o lanterns EVERYWHERE. You had giant pillowcases filled with candy. My favorite memories revolve around Halloween.

I hope everyone else had a fabulous Halloween! If not much happened this year.... Start planning for next year! Everything is on clearance now so stock up lol!

Uggghhh....hate April fools, too! (Yayyy, let's make a holiday where we celebrate making other people look stupid, and when you're not smart enough to do that, just scare the crap out of them!)

I know Halloween is all fake. That doesn't make it any better =P
