Swimming Thread

I love swimming, I competitively swam all through school, it was the only sport I was ever good at, in fact it was the only thing that ever made me feel good about myself during the years of abuse.

Shell, thank you for sharing your thoughts about swimming. Indeed, swimming is healing. Water is related with emotions. Perhaps water have some emotions?!? hehehe Weird question. :wacky:  :D

It's hard to fit glasses under goggles, so I understand! I wear glasses too! (Cool smiley with prescription sunglasses! :D) I can't afford them so I buy the sunglass clip-ons to put over my glasses! No one seems to notice the difference so they're pretty cool! :D)

I was hoping to go swimming today so I could come in this thread and say "I went swimming today!." Unfortunately it didn't happen. I swim sidestroked because like Alba I can't get my ears wet. I don't swim far. Most it is just a dip in the ocean pools.

Swimming has been wonderful for me this past 6 months. Even when I don't feel like going, I make myself go and come out ever thankful that I made it.

It is good exercise, but it's just so relaxing too and doesn't leave me swaety and horrible.

I do aqua-aerobics too. And on my holidays I could spend hours body boarding like a big kid.

Yes they make ear plugs specifically for swimmers. They also make drops that go in the ears after swimming to stop/prevent swimmer's ear. The only reason I know this is because my boys both had terrible times with getting the water in their ears and ending up going to the doctor because of it. Seems to work, I know we don't end up in the doctor's office anymore since they have been doing that. Sometimes the oldest one still deals with it. Maybe he doesn't get the plug in quite right.

I can understand not everyone would be able to use the drops or plugs.

I love swimming underwater. I feel away from everything, very calm and in tune with my body. It's almost like a meditation.

I love the sea, too. I'm in the UK and am smiling at all the people saying they don't like cold water. Here, the sea's quite cold even in summer. I'll swim in the sea as late as October, but that's about my limit. There are people who do it all year round.

I'm used to swimming pools being heated, but a warm sea is too weird for me. I don't even like it. It wouldn't be the same without that moment of decision and determination, and squealing, when you first rush in.
