You Know You Have PTSD When...

Every time you try to convince yourself that you don't have PTSD, the really convoluted rationale you come up proves otherwise.

You can stay eerily calm and collected with other people's crises but when it comes to your own, you wish you had better coping skills.

You may like being with people but isolation is awkwardly comforting.

When you were last in the mental ward, you had to ask that your roommate be changed to another room because she told some other patient that she wanted to sleep with you. And furthermore, she tore pages out of a book that belongs to you and that you were reading intently quite often while there. And then you were told that you had to cut her some slack because she is psychotic, which made you wonder (because you've been labeled that too... ) just HOW psychotic you might be compared to that roommate. And you still have no answer to that question!

O.o Did this actually happen to you? That would drive me nuts!

^ TOTALLY relatable.... :giggle:

When the man you increasingly like tells you he has two children and you automatically have a certain image of them in mind, i.e. children about 3 to 4 years old playing happily along; when he then tells you they're both around twenty, you gasp for air out loud and want to scream: "But they're my age -- how is that supposed to work?!?!?" When you realize then that you're really almost 40 but still feel way too young to deal with his "children" because you fear they may be more mature than you!

Yes, exactly as I wrote it. She also took a crayon and WROTE in the book I was reading, thus making it VERY hard to read. She was suffering from AIDS, I later learned (thank God she did not jump into bed with me!!!) and she stole a blanket of mine too....

I think if they didn't have me so drugged up as they did, I would have gone 100% NUTZ and needed a straight jacket!!!
