Hi when I was sixteen I lost my memory for two months and suffered with anxiety attacks, I am now 21 and am told I have PTSD is this normal? I feel like it was so long ago so why do I have it? I have my memory back now and my life is pretty ok

I also live with a heart condition everyday apparently my surgery has caused my PTSD as well I am just a bit confused and overwhelmed by the whole aspect of it can anyone help me because I really thought I was over all the bad stuff that happened to me

Many Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

This may sound like a ridiculous question, but...what caused the memory loss? What were the reasons you were diagnosed? I ask because memory loss doesn't just happen without a cause.

Welcome to the forum, Chelle.

I am not at all sure "normal" and "PTSD" belong in the same sentence. As soon as I find a "normal for me" I seem to shift to a new phase in the healing process. It is all very puzzling. Like working a dozen puzzles all at once. I shoot for breaking it down into smaller chunks and tackling it one piece at a time.

Welcome, Chelle. Whatever approach you find for yourself, I hope you find reinforcing companionship here.

What caused my memory loss was very strange. I went to school one day and sat down in my classroom and all of a sudden felt shaky, then I couldn't breath for two hours or more and blacked out at the hospital. When I woke up I could not remember anything. Like for example I kept asking who my sister was and how I knew her etc. It was like I recognised their faces but didn't know how she was connected to me. It was the same for the rest of my family and friends. Hope that makes sense if not ill try explain better

And is it that you disagree with the diagnosis? Sorry for all the questions I'm just not 100% sure what your concern is from your post.

I'm just overwhelmed by it all. I thought I was over it since i am 21 now and it happened when I was 16. I just came on here for guidance or support or someone to talk to.

I think things often don't hit people till later for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, when we are so busy dealing with something we are caught up just in dealing with it and don't really get time to work out or allow ourselves the feelings that go with it at the time.[DOUBLEPOST=1386795943][/DOUBLEPOST]Did you have much support/counselling at the time?

Maybe that's why it's come back to hit you now. Perhaps you weren't able to process it properly at the time? The therapist that diagnosed you, are you still seeing them now?
