Is It Possible To Heal (completely) From Ptsd??

I think it's a little bit of both symptom control and rewiring of the brain I think it is always there, and we will all have to manage it, but as our brain changes, it can get easier to manage.

There's no cure for the common cold. Doesn't make it a lifelong problem.

When your core is strong enough to understand you are and always have been better than those who tried to drag you down. You're cured!!

Lol. Cold analogy? Not quite. A cold has a finite duration of approximately 7-10 days barring further complications.

More narcissism. Sigh.

I personally believe it won't be totally and completely gone for me. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I think right now. I think I'll learn to manage the symptoms maybe to the point that at least one of them them might not fit the criteria anymore. But I think it will always be there for me. I think I'll always have to work in a way that people who have never had PTSD don't at managing myself. I think I'll improve and things will get easier but I don't think I'm going to be cured with absolutely no symptoms ever again. And the two therapists I've had in this past year have agreed with me saying I will probably always be dealing with this to some degree. I look forward to the days when PTSD is easier to manage. For now I'm still learning.

As a diabetic and PTSDer, I see the diseases are pretty much the same in a few respects. At this point in time, there is not a cure for either of them. There is hope that cures can be found, but they aren't here yet.

BUT, if you do the right things, the symptoms can be reduced so they cause less long-term damage to your health and the quality of your life.

I guess I believe that things rarely get better than we expect them too. They may not get as good as we'd like, but they rarely exceed our expectations. "Argue for your limitations, and they're yours."

I don't think it makes any sense to expect things to "go back to the exactly the way they were". This might vary with individuals. Personally, I have no recollection of a "time before", and I'm sure that's different from have an concept of "before and after". Regardless, life is like a river and it moves on. No matter what changes we experience, they are CHANGES, so today is always different from yesterday.

As far as the neuroscience goes, I've read about things like OCD, where brain studies have shown altered pathways that are associated with the condition and, after therapeutic intervention that appeared to result in decreased symptoms, those pathways had altered to become more "normal". I think if you can change a normal brain in one direction it stands to reason you can change it back. I'm sure every case is different, but I wouldn't want to put an arbitrary limit on what's possible.

I totally agree, but reducing symptoms isn't a cure (or 'completely healed') in my opinion.

I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on this. However, I don't want to take this thread away from the original topic. Perhaps it should be a discussion in a new thread.
