Clonidine is what she prescribed me.
I was prescribed this. It creeped me out, but I tried it (recommended by psychiatrist at an outpatient program I did). It didn't work and I tried it twice. It can cause insomnia (which I experienced) and it also did not keep me from waking up from nightmares once I did get to sleep. But, medications and I do not get along well- I am prone to them not being effective or having strange side effects. In my research before taking it, I saw a lot of support for use with trauma patients.

@JEKBreatheandBelieve
I am actually having weird side effects.
I will be sitting calmly on the couch and my heart rate will ZOOM up crazy high, like I'm having a panic attack but my breathing is normal and I don't feel triggered.
Today I did a work out... The swim was abysmal : Heart rate kept jumping up so I could only manage 50m at a time. Same thing with the run. A nice easy, slow trop and my heart rate jumped up (because I as monitoring it) to 160+. WHAT!? I usually sit around 130-140 for a warm up pace. I never could get it back down. So I stayed at that very slow pace with a heart rate hovering around what I would like my rate to look like on a decent run: 150.

Right now.. an hour and a half later I'm spiking...
ugh

Definitely check in with your psychiatrist. I haven't all of the comments to your original post, but it seemed like you thought the psychiatrist was nice so checking in about side-effects is definitely worthwhile. I did almost every day after I would start a new medication, but that was when I did the outpatient program. I think they thought I was a hypochondriac, but after awhile, I think they understood that I was just concerned because I know that medications don't always have the desired effect on me.
