My Paraplegic Cousin Was In A Severe Car Accident!

One of my cousins (dad's brother's son) became a paraplegic (cant feel from wasit down & both hands are unuseable) as a teenager from a diving accident. He flips houses for a living (his ideas, men do the work) and was on "Flip This House" tv show twice.

I just found out that he was in a bad car accident. His truck ended up in a ditch and he has broken ribs & hurt his chest & because he's a paraplegic, its much more serious!

I dont know much, will know more later but please keep him in your thoughts! I will update when i know more.

Thanks! Obviously I love my family whether they like me or not but he (along with a few other cousins) is one of the few that doesnt completely dislike me. I would hold his Rook cards (a card game the family always played at reunions) to give his girlfriend a break cause his hands are slightly stuck, one of them more than the other...and while holding his cards, pointing to the one he wanted me to put down, he would try to teach me how to play. I still have no idea how to play Rook but it was one of the best times i had at the reunion oddly enough. I was always the "black sheep" that was ignored so for someone to be one on one like that with me was great!

He showed me his truck that was made specificlly for him. All of the "peddles" or controls are on the steering wheel.

If his girlfriend wasnt driving behind him, i dont know what would if happened cause his truck went into a gully, not able to be seen at all from the road.

Oh god i have no idea how im gonna keep my mind on work today. Sigh!

He was driving and the tie rod went out and he was going around curve and when that goes out u can't steer the wheel anymore so... He is now stable and coming out of trauma unit today. He had 5 or 6 crushed ribs broken leg broken knee and shoulder bone displaced.

Said if he wouldn't have hit the tree there was a steep embankment right behind that tree very far down that he would have gone down and certainly not made it. Instantly killed. And they had to get him out with the jaws of life.

Im SO happy that he's ok and hit the tree & not gone down the embankment all the way. They live on the mountains (Smokeys).

Tie rod went...dangerous, and not necessarily predictable unless you have the undercarriage inspected very regularly.

Yeah! He lives on the mountian and they were going to a cabin he iwns on about 40 acres further up the moutian...thank god he hit that tree and didnt go all the way down the embankment!

Sorry to hear this - doesn't sound like he really needs any more bad luck - but I'm glad he's ok.

He does ok for himself, he has a ton of money but yeah, his accident as a teenager really messed things up but on the 2 tv shows he was on, he said if it wasnt for that he would be a wild guy today. It humbled him.

He's ok. Still in the hospital but ok. I asked about his wheel chair and my dad's brother wasnt 100% sure but thinks its ok. Its an electric wheelchair because he cant push a wheelchair due to his hands. Also his girlfriend (of forever, they cant get married cuz he'd loose all of his benefits) faught the police to impound the truck cuz she needed to get the equipment off the steeringwheel (the accelator, brake, etc...like peddles would be) and knowing her (she's a fire cracker when need be), she probably stood in their way.

In other news, i just found out that one of my dad's brother whom has alzehimers, is so bad that he's hitting his wife (he has always been so gentle and would NEVER do that otherwise) so they are looking for a good home for him to go in. It runs in the family, he has it as does one of my dad's sisters and my dad's mom had it and my dad is 74 and was showing early signs and it took me yrs for him to agree for the VA to test him and my dad is negitive for it, thank god!

All of my aunts and uncles are much older as my dad and i are 40 yrs apart, the youngest of my dad's second marriage and my mom even is the 2nd youngest of 14 so the older ones are way older like that too.
