I am joining this thread a little prematurely because I am not quite ready to give up smoking just yet (soon though). I need to get nicotine replacement patches, (as last time I had success with using them to thwart the withdrawal symptoms). I haven't set a quit date ...yet. But I have early stage COPD and seriously need to give up the habit. I was told that if I give it up soon, I may not have to use an inhaler for my COPD symptoms anymore.

As some of you already know, I suffer with CFS/ME and COPD is complicating matters for me, so I desperately need to stop smoking. I am disabled and have a lot of spare time on my hands, so I will need to develop some positive habits to keep me busy and replace smoking. I think I need some support and encouragement to help me get fired up enuff to go ahead and stop. My doctor has given me until the 12th of December to get smoke free.

I have been reading about the successes and struggles others have been experiencing and I only hope that I can quit for good this time.

2 cigs... basically I was visibly shaken and quite disturbed when I saw my husband's cousin's wife. But not going to use it as a reason to go buy a pack... so I'm trying to continue the quit and think it's gonna go down this way to keep it straight in my head: 15 (successful quit days) / 1 (smoking day) - 2 (# of cigs)

So since I blew it today it looks like 15 / 1 - 2. Though I botched it... if I post it and look at it, I can see the number of successful days far exceed my lapse. (convoluted but hoping this will work for me so that the lapse will not automatically mean a relapse)

I am so glad for this thread. I am having such a craving for a smoke. It will pass away. But I sure would love to have a cigarette right now. I would just get hooked all over again. I have six months of sobriety of smoking. I do not want to mess that up. I am thankful that other people are also struggling with this. I do not feel all alone.

Congratulations on your 6 months Gizmo. I just uploaded this image on another thread... don't give in to the urge to smoke. It ain't worth it. Today all it did for me was throw me back into the addiction cycle. The best way to win is not to play.

Thank you Alby. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am doing alittle better now. The really amazing part is that the feeling does pass. Onward and upward.
