A News Report That Has Really P--sed Me Off!

I had been reading many of the news articles about lawsuits and how frivolous they seem, but then I got a lesson in the power of the press when I did some training for an insurance license. The McDonald's lawsuit was one of the suits that was explained, the company was warned many, many times prior to the incident to turn down the temperature and it was never done. The incident that sparked the suit was not the first time that someone had been badly burnt. The press made fun of the lawsuit, it was a way to sell papers and people read the headlines but did not take the time to read the details if they were even reported. A lot of stories that make it into different papers are actually authored by one person and distributed by a service and space constraints do not allow for a complete picture. The public can be flooded by the headlines that seem to come from different sources but it is actually only one source.

I no longer take what I read in the news as unbiased and rarely do all sides of the issue get reported. The suit that was listed at the start of this thread I had never heard about but I have been on airplanes in turbulence. I know that even on the same flight the turbulence can affect passengers differently. I have seen people hit the roof of the plane and others thrown around in the seat while others who were belted in with ear plugs, slept right through the incident. I am sure that there are many people on here who can relate to that.

This is why the only person who's diagnosis means anything is from a psychiatrist, the only mental health professional who has the training and experience of diagnostic medicine.

Yes, yes... whilst therapist get minor training, it does not make them "qualified" in diagnostic medicine. Shit, I get training for diagnosis as a counsellor, and I would never actually diagnose someone, because there is simply far to much to it, beyond the scope of minor training information added with some OJT. It does not make us doctors...
