Abilify!!! I think they (doctors ) finally found the right medication, cheers for Abilify...um minus my constant hunger. I like my mood.:geek:

Are you taking it with anything else or by itself? I'm on Abilify too, but I'm taking it with Wellbutrin.

same thing happened to me. I was on the Wellbutrin by itself and it was kind of working but not really (but better than all the other anti-depressants I had been on) and then when they started me on the Abilify in conjunction with the Wellbutrin it all came together.

I'm so happy for you, @trying2movefwd - I've really noticed the change in your posts, and was wondering if the abilify was helping.

It pretty much saved my life, when it was added as an adjunct to my wellbutrin and cymbalta. I've also been on the lamictal/wellbutrin/abilify combo, it was a little strong for me, but that's OK, that's what the trial and error is for.

Do be prepared - abilify can definitely cause weight gain. It doesn't for everyone - it sounds like you are actually getting increased hunger, which in many ways is good, if your depression was causing you to never be hungry.

When I say abilify can cause weight gain - the latest research indicates that it affects insulin resistance. So, switching to a low-carb high-protein diet to manage both satiety and weight is the best strategy available. Whether or not you experience this has to do with your body, not the drug. So, you'll just figure it out over the next few months.

But I encourage you to keep working with it. For the people that it helps, it really is a life-saver.

Congrats, I tried abilify but it didn't work. But I am on the new ability called rexulti. This supposedly has less side effects and yes it's amazing. But I am a freak about weight, one of my many issues. So I am cutting in half the smallest dose and trying to function. It's a struggle, I want to feel good, the medication helps so much. I am afraid of the weight gain and pushing myself back to my food withholding ways.I am stuck..

I too may have found a working med with Abilify. Though only at 1mg....side effects took me 6wks to adjust and I'm still holding tight. I might add a second mg this coming week. I've not found hunger, but I did switch my diet to accommodate the changes.

Saw my psych today and I'm starting Abilify tonight at 5mg in addition to Wellbutrin, Viibryd, and Klonopin that I'm already on. I'll post again in a couple of days....

So far so good. I can already tell the difference in my mood and I slept 8 hours last night, as opposed to 4 or 5.
