Accommodation Ideas For College?

I have just the "regular" accommodations because of PTSD and think they're okay. However, there is something that lets you "erase" those semesters that you dropped out of on your transcript but I forgot what it was called. It's like starting over without "starting over." Academic forgiveness, I think. I had this done and am almost finished college being on the Dean's List for the third quarter in a row. Ask about that. If you have any other issues, I'd talk to see if you can do just online courses. That's what I do. Good luck!!

True. And, even if one speaks with his professor, he should never side-step the official system.

It's so, so much easier than trying to play armchair psychologist...which really never goes well.

True. I guess my personal situation was different because not only am I a counseling major (the professor student relationship is a little more intimate than other majors and the class sizes are very small), but my trauma was extremely public and most of my professors and classmates knew what I had gone through before the start of class the next day.

All the more reason to be cautious. Counseling professors are even more tempted than others to engage themselves in analyzing their students. This generally does not work to the student's advantage.

Anecdote: My initial degrees were in psychology. I believed my professors and the doctoral-level psychologists I did research under would naturally be sympathetic to students and employees with psych issues. Not so! I saw two well-respected graduate students and a permanent employee let go within a twelve-month period for reason of depression alone. All three individuals were performing well but, once their individual plights became known, they were thrown under the bus.

Many psych professionals hide their diagnoses because they know they will be considered 'damaged goods' if the truth becomes known.

Oh I've kept my diagnosis hidden. Most of the accommodations I needed were immediate and a direct result of the traumatic situation, not the resulting mental health issues (another reason why I went direct, rather than student services).
