New Here
Hello, myptsd. I'll start with the basics. As a 26-year-old woman who was raised by a mother with NPD, I'm only just recently seeking help for depression&PTSD and looking into long-term counselor after freeing myself from her claws and toxic lifestyle. I'm big into photography, drawing manga-style art, all kinds of music, video games, kids animated films(Dreamworks, anyone?), and animals. Need advice with your cats? I have two that are 4 years old now. Ask away. (:

I'm very bad at keeping track of things like this on the net. So, please pardon my spontaneous absences. It's nothing personal. I hope to learn many things from this site after spending some time in reddit's raisedbynarcissists board. It'll definitely be different.

Welcome, Cheeseriver. From one cat parent to another :-). We have a six year old and 2 two year olds. Also an artist, too. And a mother who I suspect has NPD. I'm so glad you freed yourself from her at this young age. It took me till the age of 39 or so. You go, girl.

Eh, nothing worse than trying to give a pill to a cat. How about having some tuna fish at the ready? Meaning, get the pill in and down, then give tuna fish.

Welcome cheeseriver! You came to the right place - there are lots of cat people on here and lots of people with ptsd from parents and/or narcissists - you're in good company! I hope you find this site as useful as I have!

I don't mean to go off topic but are the Reddit boards any good or is it a free for all? I am not...
I believe they're good, in my personal opinion, but a lot of the posts on the raisedbynarcissists board of reddit are realtime crisises going on everyday and because the supporters who help people there are trustworthy, people are very open about their abuse as it occurs. Luckily, there is a "trigger warning" moderators put on post titles that may include very violent abuse(past or present). However, don't be scared by that. RBN was the place I visited and realized my mother likely had NPD after reading through a lot of experiences that seemed very similar to mine. The users there were very helpful. :) They have other boards regarding mental illness and getting better where you can receive extra advice.

@cheeseriver Welcome to the forum!:)

I hope that you find this sie and the support of the members here helpful. On this site trigger warnings are not used because it is a trauma/PTSD site potentially anything could be a trigger. One if my big one's was red and white SUVs.:confused:

Welcome to the forums :hug: I hope this place helps you. It's very useful because of the bulk amount of people who feel similar and understand. There is a lot of advice and support to be found here :) I hope that this amazing community helps you as much as it helped me, reading all the similar stories, and learning a lot along the way. Hugs if you accept :hug:

Hi!
I have a pathological narcissist mom, she's been diagnosed officially...although that was long after we were all too far gone as a family to get any help. It's not quite the reason I'm here or have ptsd now, but I can very much relate to the hideous vacuum of needs a mom like that will create. I haven't even filled out the intro part yet, I just joined 5 minutes ago and was comforted to see someone with pathological parents so I just jumped in and said hi.
